Ganon will not be making an appearance for just the second time ever in a 3D Zelda game. Skyward Sword producer confirmed in an interview with Nintendo Power that the team made a conscious decision to leave him outside of the title. Aonuma told the magazine that they wanted to feature a new villain because “the Triforce sort of takes on a different meaning and plays a different role in the story.”

Here’s Aonuma’s complete statement:

“Yes, that’s right. Ganon typically appears in a Zelda game when the story is centered around the Triforce. This time around, the Triforce sort of takes on a different meaning and plays a different role in the story. So because of that, Ganon will not appear.”

It probably wouldn’t make much sense for Ganon to show up anyway, since Skyward Sword is the first game in the Zelda timeline. He first appeared in Ocarina of Time, which, obviously, occurs many years later.

Nintendo of America is bringing over the “original” version of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2. So, all of the content from the “Professional” version will not be included.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional was released in Japan back in March. It featured new elements such as a slew of additional monsters.

Nintendo of America will be releasing the first edition of the game on September 19.

Nintendo’s Bill Trinen also provided the following information about the upgrade system in the game:

“What I can say though is what we have done with the game this time that I think a little bit different is… They’ve built an entire upgrade system into the game. So for example, right now you can see that Link has his traditional shield, but he actually will get a lot of diferent shields in the game. He will start off with a very basic one, and then as you fight enemies, you will recover these kind of treasures or artifacts that you can then use as resources to upgrade your items. And you can do that with your shield, you can do that with the beetle, and some of the other items that you have where you’re able to kind of combine your collection of rupees and your collection of resources and improve the items that you have.”

Nintendo did discuss this feature during E3, but I don’t believe they went into this much detail. We now know that Link will be able to obtain multiple shields throughout the game.
