Well, that was quick. We already have a confirmation that WiiWare demos are on the way once again. It seems that Nintendo might be supporting the program much more this time around, as the press release below states that “the line-up is constantly kept refreshed.” We’ll see what Nintendo has to say about demos in North America next week, hopefully!
Wii SHOP CHANNEL LAUNCHES NEW SERVICE: ONGOING WiiWARE DEMOS FOR EXCLUSIVE DOWNLOAD
WiiWare demos join a host of new games available for download on WiiWare & Nintendo DSiWare this Friday
This week sees the launch of a new service added to the Wii Shop Channel, in the form of ongoing downloadable WiiWare demos. Containing a taster of the full version of a WiiWare game, WiiWare demos offer players the ability to trial select WiiWare games without using up any of their Wii Points, giving players the enjoyment of testing out the game before ultimately deciding whether to download the full version of the game or not using their Wii Points.
Every WiiWare demo featured on the Wii Shop Channel will be available for a limited time only ensuring the line-up is constantly kept refreshed to provide players with a varied and entertaining experience. Players will be able to see the WiiWare demos currently available for download via a dedicated list on wiiware.nintendo.co.uk as well as on the Wii Shop Channel itself.
Fans from Every Generation Invited to Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros. at Newly Remodeled Flagship Store
–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Nintendo Media Alert:
WHAT:
Gamers of all ages can remember the first time they played Nintendo’s original Super Mario Bros.™ – one of the most loved, most played games in history. On Nov. 7, Nintendo of America is pulling out all the stops to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series and mark the grand re-opening of Nintendo’s flagship Manhattan retail store, Nintendo® World. Fans of all ages are invited to gather at Nintendo World at New York’s famed Rockefeller Plaza for an unforgettable anniversary bash and a firsthand look at the store’s renovation. Attendees can enjoy hands-on game play with new and classic Super Mario Bros. games, a Super Mario Bros. cake, a fun photo booth and a video station where fans and consumers can record their favorite memories of Super Mario Bros. Fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Mushroom Kingdom characters and even pose for photos with Mario™ himself. The event is free and open to the public.
Since the 1985 launch of the original Super Mario Bros. video game, Mario has become one of the world’s most widely recognized pop-culture icons. To date, 240 million units in the Super Mario Bros. franchise have been sold worldwide. In addition, players of every generation can enjoy characters inspired by Super Mario Bros. in games such as Super Mario Galaxy™2, which is currently available for the Wii™ console, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™: Mini-Land Mayhem! for the Nintendo DS™ family of hand-held systems, which will launch on Nov. 14.
First off, I want to make a quick note of our Goldeneye contest- great support so far! I’ll take article submissions for a few more days (the ones I’ve gotten so far are fantastic!), but the commenting piece of the contest ends tomorrow! Best of luck to all of you!
I’m a proud Wii owner. Even with a lot of my friends making fun of the system and talking of the betrayal by Nintendo, I stick by that cheap little white piece of plastic like it’s my conjoined twin. Why? Because I love it, I love the games, and I love Nintendo. There is really nothing like beating a Zelda game, nothing like traversing tens of levels in a Mario Bros. game, nothing like exploring the emptiness of the sci-fi Metroid world, and nothing like bringing some friends together for some of the fun that can be had with the various local co-op games Nintendo brings to the table. It is for these reasons that I think many hardcore gamers own the Wii and own it proudly; we love our system, and want it to be treated with the same respect that the other systems get. We expect that a third party developer won’t announce a Wii exclusive game, and then port it to other systems, water down their Wii games to “appeal” to us, or cancel Wii versions of games due to system limitations.
The WiiWare demo program, although successful, was strangely halted in North America and Europe after just one batch was released. Wii owners were able to test out titles such as World of Goo and Bit.Trip Beat for a few months, but the sample downloads were removed towards the end of January. It seems the program may be making a return, however.
A number of different WiiWare developers have apparently told NintendoLife that the Big N recently started accepting submissions for a new wave of demos. It seems that the downloads will remain on the Wii Shop Channel until Christmas, at the very least. Hopefully this is a sign that we’ll start seeing demos more frequently in the future.
