Link_Zelda_SpirtTracks

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– It was among the most heinous incidents in video game history: In 1986, Princess Zelda™ was kidnapped from the land of Hyrule, setting off an intrepid rescue adventure for young hero Link™. Unfortunately for Zelda, this offense has been repeated more than a dozen times since, leaving her largely out of sight while Link traversed dark dungeons and confronted monstrous enemies alone in order to save her.

This time, in the new Nintendo DS™ and Nintendo DSi™ adventure The Legend of Zelda™: Spirit Tracks, that all changes.

Believe it or not, the PS3 outsold the Wii for the first time since launch in September. This is, of course, based on the September 2009 NPD sales data report. Both Sony and Nintendo applied price cuts during that month. But although Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, is pleased with the Wii price cut numbers thus far, he was quick to point out on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV that the PS3 had a longer period with its drop and therefore “you have to put it in perspective.”

“So far it’s selling really well. We’ve been very pleased with the numbers. We’re really pleased as we get ready for the holiday season…You know, you have to put it in perspective. They had five full weeks of price reduction in their favor, we had the one week. And even with that, the gap was pretty small.”

This information comes from Shigeru Miyamoto, on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV…

“We’re in the middle of finalizing the game, the ideas that we’ve created, almost entirely new courses for Super Mario Galaxy 2. Of course we’ve added some new abilities for Mario. And the goal is to take the system and the gameplay of the original Super Mario Galaxy and turn it into something that’s a little more expanded and offers a great deal of challenge for people that enjoyed that first game.”

The original Super Mario Galaxy provides an incredibly entertaining experience, so following the game’s announcement, I was extremely happy. And if Galaxy 2 was to be more of the same (although I don’t think it will be), just being able to roam around in new levels would be fantastic.

“You mentioned Zelda, we haven’t committed to Zelda for 2010. That’s what he (Miyamoto hoping to release the game next year) said. So we’ll see how that continues to develop.”

For some reason, I just don’t see Zelda Wii coming out next year. We’ll already have seen two huge Nintendo games – Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M. Besides, Nintendo has delayed their last few Zelda titles quite often.

Warning: There are spoilers below!

Since its announcement, we’ve all known that the Phantom in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks will assist you in defeating enemies and completing goals. However, the actual mystery behind the Phantom has been revealed. In the beginning of the game, Princess Zelda turns into a ghost. In one scene, the Phantom is about to attack Link, but Zelda, in her ghost form, takes over its body and from that point on aids Link in his journey. It is a bit unexpected, and this is certainly Zelda’s most involved role in the series thus far.
