Cult County

Nintendo Life has gone ahead with a new interview with Jools Watsham from Renegade Kid. Watsham talked about Moon Chronicles (sales and status of future episodes), the Cult County Kickstarter, and what’s planned for 2015.

You can find these excerpts below. Check out the full discussion here.

After initially pulling the plug on the 3DS version, Renegade Kid now hopes to bring its survival horror title to Nintendo’s portable once again. If the game’s Kickstarter meets its minimum funded goal of $580,000, backers will be able to choose the 3DS version as their platform of choice for download codes.

Cult County does have a ways to go before it reaches its Kickstarter target. The campaign has just 16 days to raise well over $500,000.

It goes without saying that Cult County will make use of the GamePad. Renegade Kid also has plans to support a Wiimote / nunchuck option.

That’s not all though. Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham said in a Reddit AMA that the team will explore all control methods on Wii U, “and if they feel good we’ll include them.”

Have no fear about the Wii U version of Cult County. Even though Renegade Kid is developing the game for a bunch of platforms, Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham says that it “will be treated as a lead SKU” on Wii U.

Renegade Kid has set a rather high funding goal for Cult County on Kickstarter. In order to secure all donations, the studio will need to raise $580,000.

That kind of high target raises an important question: what will happen to Cult County if the campaign doesn’t reach its goal? Fortunately, Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham confirmed to Polygon that it will still be made, but development would take much longer.

Watsham said:

“We will make Cult County regardless of what happens with the Kickstarter campaign,” Watsham said. “It will take a lot longer for us to complete Cult County if the minimum goal is not reached, though.”

Prior to today’s console and Kickstarter announcement for Cult County, the good folks over at Nintendo Life caught up with Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham to discuss the project. Watsham tackled topics pertaining to the 3DS version, taking to Kickstarter, Unity, and more.

Update: Kickstarter is now live. You can donate here. The goal is set at $580,000.

Cult County, a Renegade Kid project first announced as a 3DS eShop exclusive, is now coming to Wii U, PlayStation platforms, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. This is indeed related to the studio’s Kickstarter set to go live in just a short while.

Nintendo Force reveals the news in its latest issue. “It’s an ambitious upgrade in scope and complexity, and one that will require extra capital to accomplish,” the magazine writes.

Cult County will launch in 2015 – assuming the Kickstarter goal is met.

Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham has posted a new update on his blog outlining the studio’s development plans. Mutant Mudds (3DS), Treasurenauts, Cult County, Mutant Mudds 2 were all covered in the post. Additionally, Watsham teased two new titles, one of which has been confirmed for 3DS and will be announced in January.

Rather than rounding up the news in bullet point form, it’d probably be best to share the blog post entirely. You can find it after the break or on Watsham’s page here.
