Donkey Kong Bananza

Donkey Kong Bananza limited time Emerald Rush event guide

Donkey Kong Bananza’s first limited-time Emerald Rush event is live, and we’ve got some tips and tricks so you can get all of its rewards in one go.

A while back, we compiled an even larger collection of tips and tricks for Emerald Rush. Those still apply here, so we’d highly recommend reading it in case you need to brush up on your skills. Fortunately, this event is actually far easier than getting an emerald medal on the highest difficulty of any given stage. To obtain the exclusive Enguarde and Kong Bananza statues, you’ll need to collect 1 million emeralds in a single round. That sounds daunting, but the reason this event is easier is because all of the emerald perks that appear revolve around chips. That means every single emerald perk you choose will actually be helpful – unlike non-event Emerald Rush runs, where you have to sift through dozens of bonuses that don’t immediately bring you any benefit.

Donkey Kong Bananza 2.0.2 update

Nintendo has released the latest update for Donkey Kong Bananza, which is version 2.0.2.

The patch is all about the latest bug fixes and general improvements. In particular, an issue was addressed in which Pauline’s voice wouldn’t play at times when acquiring a fossil.

The full rundown is as follows:

Nintendo has just announced that Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC will begin hosting regular in-game events. The first of which titled “Chip Fever” will start on October 28, 2025, and will last until November 4.

These events will allow you to play a special version of Emerald Rush on designated stages, under certain conditions. If you get a high enough score, you can get limited edition character statues which are exclusive to said event.

For the full details on the first of these events, Chip Fever, you can read the overview below:

In a previous interview, Nintendo confirmed that Donkey Kong Bananza was initially in development for Switch 1 before it was moved to Switch 2. In fact, we even got a screenshot showing how things looked on the older hardware. But now in another interview, we get to hear more about why Donkey Kong Bananza really wouldn’t have been possible on Nintendo Switch 1 at the end of the day – especially in its final state.

Donkey Kong Bananza generally runs at 60 frames per second on Nintendo Switch 2. On Switch 1, 30 FPS would have been the target – but it sounds like the team was having a tough time even reaching stable performance at that level. Even more interesting though, back when development was happening on Switch 1, Nintendo hadn’t made the lower layers yet and according to co-director Wataru Tanaka, “if we continued making the game like this all the way down it may not be possible.”

Below is our full translation of the Nintendo Dream interview excerpt with Tanaka, artist Daisuke Watanabe, and producer Kenta Motokura:

September 18: Nintendo has released the latest set of icons on Switch Online. This time it’s themed around Donkey Kong Bananza’s DLC, DK Island & Emerald Rush.

The first set is now available, lasting until September 25. Nintendo Switch Online members can spend their Platinum Points on various icons on a weekly basis. New icons will go up every Thursday (Friday for those in Europe) until October 9 at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET.

Donkey Kong Bananza 2.0.1 update

Nintendo has come out with a new update for Donkey Kong Bananza, which moves the game up to version 2.0.1.

This is a fairly small patch containing a couple of specific bug fixes and general changes. For fixes, this involves players previously not receiving a reward for collecting all balloons in Bananza Rehearsal and another involving voice settings.

The full rundown is as follows:

Donkey Kong Bananza Emerald Rush guide

Emerald Rush is Donkey Kong Bananza’s new DLC mode, and it’s extremely difficult. The first few difficulties are no problem at all – but play the highest difficulty, and you’ll see that the emerald quotas Void Kong is looking for quickly become absolutely insane. They also last 15 rounds, which means a run of Emerald Rush’s toughest challenge will often take over 30 minutes. And you’re not even guaranteed to win! If you’ve been struggling to tackle those higher difficulties, you’re in luck – I’ve been playing this mode for between 15 and 20 hours and have gathered a whole bunch of helpful tips. To start, here’s a very important tidbit: this mode is almost completely dependent on RNG. That is to say, even if you do everything right, you can still lose just because the game decides it so. So even with these tips, you may still have a bit of trouble – but they’ll definitely make you a much better player.

Donkey Kong Bananza secret boss battle

Donkey Kong Bananza’s DK Island + Emerald Rush DLC dropped a few days ago, and there’s more to it than meets the eye – but only a little bit more. As it turns out, there’s a secret boss fight hidden within the DLC that takes more than a couple of hours to unlock. Once you do, it’s surprisingly tough, and we’ve put together a guide on how to unlock this hidden boss battle and some tips on how to clear it. As a heads up, you can expect the game’s performance to dip during this fight – in our experience, things went below 30 frames per second more than a few times. As usual, there are spoilers within, so only continue if you’re okay with knowing who the secret boss is.

Donkey Kong Bananza DK Island Emerald Rush Review

System: Switch 2
Release date: September 12, 2025
Developer: Nintendo
Publisher: Nintendo

All things considered, it seems safe to say that fans don’t appreciate Nintendo’s price antics lately. The recent Nintendo Direct confirmed the most expensive amiibo of all time, a $70 Super Mario Galaxy collection, and now a $20 Donkey Kong Bananza DLC two months after launch. That’s not inherently a problem – Bananza was in development for quite some time, given that it started out as a Switch 1 game. That said, the Nintendo Direct doesn’t do a very good job of telling you what the DLC actually is. From the previews, you would think DK Island is Donkey Kong Bananza’s version of the Mushroom Kingdom. And in many ways, it is – but it doesn’t have any Banandium Gems or fossils, nor any collectibles other than new outfits tied to the titular Emerald Rush mode. In other words, DK Island is essentially a big, pretty set piece – it’s nice to look at and fun to explore for a few minutes, but there’s not really anything of substance within.

Donkey Kong Bananza 2.0.0 update

Going along with DLC just revealed for the game, Donkey Kong Bananza has received a new 2.0.0 update.

Support for the DLC is naturally the big feature here. On top of that though, Nintendo has increased the Banandium Chips cap to 99,999. Other unspecified changes are also included, so you’ll want to install the update when you can.

Here’s the official rundown from Nintendo;
