Falcom on why it decided to support PSP over DS, wants to get closer to Nintendo

Nintendo and Falcom aren’t exactly names that go together. The studio hasn’t done much on Nintendo platforms, which is why it came as a surprise when Ys VIII was announced for Switch earlier this year – courtesy of Nippon Ichi.
In an interview with DenFamiNicoGamer, Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo and founder Masayuki Kato spoke about the misconception that the company hates Nintendo and why it decided to focus on the PSP instead of the DS when the latter system was booming in popularity.

The latest update for Ys VIII on Switch is now available. NIS America just started distribution of version 1.0.4.
With the new patch, there should be support for Japanese voices. NIS America also implemented aesthetic refinements during cut-scenes.

The next update for Ys VIII is now available. NIS America started distribution of version 1.03 today.

NIS America temporarily pulls free Ys VIII DLC

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana was originally intended to come with some free DLC at launch. While that content hasn’t been revoked, it has been temporarily pulled from the eShop.
NIS America issued a launch day patch for Ys VIII earlier this week. Unfortunately, some users reported that the game was crashing during the “Checking DLC” screen after downloading the DLC and update. The DLC has been removed for a short while since affected players were unable to start the game.

Ys VIII will have a day-one update on Switch, NIS America has confirmed. The publisher shared details on this front today in a message to those who reviewed the game.
The patch will address technical issues in which text was not displaying correctly. NISA says it was aware of this, and it will be addressed with the patch. Aside from text, “other issues” will be tackled as well.
The day-one update is one of three planned patches for Ys VIII on Switch.

Nihon Falcom, or just Falcom as they’re more commonly known today, is a Japanese video game developer known for producing some of the earliest JRPGs alongside rival companies previously known as Square and Enix. Although Falcom has a history of developing their many titles for PC, titles will often get ported onto consoles after the fact for a broader audience to experience. For a very long time, Falcom was mainly focusing on the PlayStation family of consoles, but with the incredible success of Switch, Nintendo is getting a port of Falcom’s latest entry in the Ys series – Ys VIII: The Lacrimosa of Dana. Falcom as a company has a lot of history under its belt, but how does Ys VIII live up to its hearty legacy?
