Niantic has shared a ton of details regarding its upcoming plans for Pokemon GO. Players will be able to partake in various activities during the summer and in celebration of the game’s fourth anniversary, leading up to Pokemon GO Fest 2020.
Three weekly challenges are planned with Timed Research lines. When completed, players can unlock additional species of Pokemon that will appear during Pokemon GO Fest 2020.

Mega Evolution coming to Pokemon GO

During today’s Pokemon Presents presentation, it was announced that Mega Evolution is coming to Pokemon GO. This will be available later in 2020.
In other news, Galarian Farfetch’d is now appearing in Pokemon GO. Players will also receive special avatar items themed after the training clothing they can wear in The Isle of Armor from Pokemon Sword/Shield.

The Pokemon Company and Niantic to donate $5 million to nonprofit organizations to help children and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion

The Pokemon Company has announced via their official Twitter that they will be teaming up with Niantic to donate $5 million to nonprofit organizations. This news comes shortly after the Pokemon Company donated $200,000 to organizations affiliated with the Black Lives Matter movement in support of those affected by systematic racism and police brutality.
This donation is set to take place after Pokemon Go Fest 2020 (July 25 and 26) and the specific charities being contributed to will be listed at a later date. This money is meant to go towards helping children and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion at a young age. The statement also specifies that the money will go to organizations that will educate and mentor black children that may be in need.

Pokemon GO update out now (Ver. 0.177.0/Ver. 1.143.0)

A new update has now rolled out for Pokemon GO, bringing the version number up to 0.177.0 for Android users and 1.143.0 for iOS. There’s the addition of a few new features in this update, including the following:
- Addition of a visual indicator (white rings around the Charge Moves) allowing players to see how many Charged Attacks they have charged in Raids and Trainer Battles
- Mystery Boxes can no longer be used at the same time as Incense
- Apple ID has been added as sign-in method on iOS
- GO Battle League ratings have been temporarily disabled
- Reality Blending feature added (Android-only – only available on supported devices)
Notably, Reality Blending is an Android-specific feature at this time, and is only available for select devices. More devices will become compatible with the feature in time. For now, we can get a feel for what Reality Blending can bring to Pokemon GO players by viewing this new trailer from Niantic:

Pokemon GO Fest 2020 announced as a virtual event

Pokemon GO Fest is returning this year, but not with an in-person event. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it will “will take place as an entirely global event in a virtual format, which will allow Trainers worldwide to participate from wherever they play.”
Pokemon GO Fest 2020 will feature a weekend of bonuses, Pokemon encounters, and Special Researchers. Niantic is also teasing “exciting ways to connect with other Trainers and experience other fun surprises throughout the entire summer.”
Pokemon GO Fest 2020 will take place on July 25 and July 26. All ticket holders will be able to attend both days.
