NPD

This month’s NPD report is in, and so are the leaks. “creamsugar”, a member of NeoGAF known for sharing NPD data, has provided a rough breakdown of sales for each platform:

200k > PS4 > 100k > XBO > Wii U > 360 > 50k > PS3 > Wii

It’ll be more interesting to see how Wii U performs next month. Mario Kart 8 launched at the very end of May, meaning it didn’t have an absolutely major impact in last month’s NPD report. June will be much more noteworthy to examine!

Digital game purchases have seen an increase over the past few years. However, based on information coming from The NPD Group, most players in the United States still tend to purchase their games physically.

In its “Core Gaming 2014” report, NPD mentions that seventy-four percent of consumers prefer buying the physical release of a title. Keep in mind that digital preferences are nevertheless on the rise, coming in at a five percent increase year-over-year.

So how about you? Which side of the fence do you sit on? Do you still prefer buying games digitally, or have you started adapting to the digital space?

Nintendo hasn’t shared any sort of official information about the Wii U’s performance in the US last month, but things were far from stellar. Sales of Nintendo’s newest console – combined with the Wii – are said to be under 100,000 units.

That information comes from NeoGAF’s “creamsugar”, who is known for providing accurate NPD leaks.

creamsugar also shared a statistic pertaining to Yoshi’s New Island as well. It sounds like the game’s software sales combined with the special 3DS XL system sold under 160,000 units.

So how much did the Wii U sell? About 82,000, based on the calculation. That’s not a whole lot, but Nintendo seems to be pleased that sales are up as a whole.
