Tomoya Asano

In a new interview with Dengeki, Bravely Second producer Tomoya Asano and assistant producer Shinji Takahashi discussed the game’s new jobs (thanks Siliconera). The title introduces jobs such as Cat Master, Patissier, Exorcist, and much more.

Asano first spoke about jobs with the following words:

“Whenever we start thinking about new jobs, we start out by keeping the entire game’s balance in mind. We’d like to have this many attackers; there should be this number of offensive mages; let’s stick to this number for healers… these are some of the thoughts that go into the balancing. One important thing of the Cat Master in particular is how we created it to be a ‘playing around’ type [of class].”

Asano added that although Cat Masters were originally created just to have fun with, they ended up being pretty strong. They’re fine at attacking and can provide support.

The latest issue of Famitsu contains an interview with producer Tomoya Asano, some of which has been translated by Siliconera. Asano spoke to the magazine about how the team is making Bravely Second with “sequel” as a focus, teased surprises, and more.

You’ll find details and a few comments from Asano below.

Siliconera has translated some quotes from this week’s issue of Famitsu about the composer change in Bravely Second. For this game, Supercell’s ryo is handling the music.

Bravely Default hit Japan towards the end of 2012, and then Square Enix prepared a re-release, “For the Sequel” about a year later. This is the version that the North American and European editions are based on.

For the Sequel’s improvements led to lower completion time. Instead of forcing players to sift through 70 hours of content, they can now finish the game in about 30 instead.

As for what specific improvements were made in order to reduce the time it takes to beat Bravely Default, producer Tomoya Asano told Siliconera:

Siliconera recently spoke with Tomoya Asano, producer of Bravely Default as well as Bravely Second. Asano confirmed that the game won’t be more action-focused than its predecessor, and talked up the game’s random battles, expansion of Luxendarc, and new character Magnolia. You can find Asano’s comments below or over at Siliconera.

Bravely Default is inspired by a lot of things… including American TV dramas, interestingly enough. Director Tomoya Asano cited the older Beverly Hills 90210 show and even Glee while answering a fan question on Twitter.

Asano’s comments in full:

Kotaku recently had the chance to speak with Bravely Default producer Tomoya Asano and assistant producer Shinji Takahashi. The two commented on the game’s Final Fantasy ties and name, interest in localizing Bravely Second, and more.

You can find some excerpts from the interview below. Kotaku’s full piece is located here.

Bravely Second is still a long ways off, but producer Tomoya Asano and designer Akihiko Yoshida have been regularly talking with Japanese outlets about the upcoming 3DS game.

In a new interview with Famitsu, Yoshida said that the game will include enhanced graphics compared to Bravely Default. He said:

Basically the [battle] system does not change but the graphics are better than in the previous game. It’s possible to fill a dense background with thicker lines and strike a balance between the two. In the previous game, we felt the resolution was too low when zooming in. But this time, the denser background and camera zoom in does not affect quality, and unlike the previous game I don’t feel that [Bravely Second] falls apart when the camera is closer.

Bravely Default hit Japan back in 2012, but Square Enix decided to re-release the game with over 100 improvements. This new version is the same title that’s being made available in North America and Europe.

After greatly changing and enhancing the original game, producer Tomoya Asano believes that there’s “really no need for any more improvements.”

Asano said the following when asked if Bravely Default’s world map would be improved for the sequel:

“In terms of Bravely Default […] we worked specifically on making improvements to it for almost a year after it was released in Japan, so we feel that there is really no need for any more improvements. In my opinion, if there more things you ‘could’ do with the map, for example, it might make some players feel that there were more things they ‘must’ do with it.

“In Bravely Default, we tried to eliminate all elements besides those which we wanted our players to enjoy, to streamline the experience.”

We also have this… unexpected comment from Asano:

“If I were a pretty girl, I would want to dress up as the Valkyrie job type. Unfortunately, I will have to give up on that idea, since I’m a middle-aged man of 35!”

Bravely Default/Bravely Second producer Tomoya Asano has previously mentioned that he hopes to create a new entry in the series each year. Annual releases don’t appear to be set in stone, however.

In an interview with 4Gamer, Asano mentioned how Bravely Default’s future relies upon the success of Bravely Second. This makes 2014 a particularly important year, Asano says.
