E3 dead

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, which has been a staple of the gaming industry for over twenty years, is officially dead. The Entertainment Software Association announced today that it’s pulling the plug on the event permanently.

E3 has been home to some of the biggest gaming announcements, news, presentations, and hands-on opportunities of the year. However, 2019 was the last time it was fully operational. The coronavirus pandemic impacted E3, and the event was never able to recover.

Zelda linear Eiji Aonuma

Starting with Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda has moved away from the linear and traditional 3D games fans had been accustomed to since Ocarina of Time. The series is now focusing on “open air” experiences with a huge world to explore and with much more freedom. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have done well from both in terms of sales and reception, though some fans miss what came before.

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has now responded to some of those discussions as part of an interview with IGN. Here’s what Aonuma shared when asked how he feels about those who miss linear Zelda given where the series is at now:

Super Mario RPG guides tips tricks

The new Super Mario RPG remake is available now for Switch, and we’ve written a big list of helpful guides to help you tackle the game’s toughest challenges. For the most part, the new release is the same as the original SNES version – at least in terms of the story. The remake adds plenty of new postgame content, including boss challenges, new weapons, and even a short side quest. This is a list of all our Super Mario RPG guides, and we’ve also added a few general tips and tricks for those new to the game as well.

Grate Guy's Casino Super Mario RPG

If you’ve been looking up Super Mario RPG guides here and there lately, then you’ve probably heard of Grate Guy’s Casino. It’s a secret location that includes a bunch of unique minigames, and they’re all required for full 100 percent completion of the game. Unfortunately, you can’t just walk right into the casino – it’s hidden behind a secret passage in Bean Valley. Most of the minigames offered at Grate Guy’s Casino also, quite frankly, aren’t terribly fun. Still, if you’re looking to see all of the content Super Mario RPG has to offer, we’ve got you covered.

The Game Awards 2023 happened this week, and we want to know what you thought about the show.

If you’re a Switch-only owner, you may have been disappointed by the announcements. There was some news for the platform here and there such as Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, but many of the titles were for other platforms. Some have a good chance at ending up on Switch eventually such as World of Goo 2, but we’ll have to wait and see. Also, Nintendo itself has been at The Game Awards in the past with both big and small announcements, but this was one of those years in which it chose not to bring anything.

As for the actual awards, Nintendo did get some wins in that department. However, for Game of the Year, that went to Baldur’s Gate 3 rather than Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or Super Mario Bros. Wonder. You can catch up on all of the winners here.

How do you feel about The Game Awards this year? What did you think of the announcements and winners? Anything related to the event is fair game, so let us know in the comments.

Splatoon 3 Splattercolor Screen health controversy

Splatoon 3 introduced the Splattercolor Screen as a new special weapon for Chill Season 2023, but things haven’t gone smoothly as controversy has started due to some players unfortunately saying that they’ve been experiencing health issues when it’s in use.

There have been various reports on social media about the situation, such as from X users NoodleArms16 and chrysan_s – plenty of others are chiming in as well. Both physical and mental-related issues are impacting players with migraines, dizziness, minor pain in the eyes, and panic among the different problems that have been mentioned. Some have even passed out due to the special being very disorienting and loud to the point that people with and without autism expressed a desire to see the special weapon changed. This is not only from players in the west, but in Japan as well.

Playable Zelda

Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma already shared a few words earlier this year on what it’ll take for Zelda to become playable, and he’s not commented on the possibility again.

Of course, as fans know, Link has taken the center spotlight in The Legend of Zelda even though the princess herself is often involved with the story. You can play as her in titles like Spirit Tracks and Hyrule Warriors, but that’s not exactly what some have been asking for.
