Kingdom Come Deliverance Switch port interview

Even though Switch has been around for over seven years, “miracle” ports for the system are always a topic of conversation. Many games that may have been thought impossible for the console have made their way over, ranging from The Witcher 3 to Doom Eternal.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is now the latest port to have arrived on Switch. Despite being a game that can be taxing on even more powerful consoles, Warhorse Studios – in partnership with Saber Interactive – managed to make a version for Nintendo’s platform that is overall pretty admirable. We recently spoke with lead programmer Anton Vasilev to talk about what the development process was actually like.

First screenshots are available from the upcoming Switch version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

The middle-ages adventure game was announced for Nintendo’s platform in June 2021, but promptly fell off the map. A listing for it then recently appeared on Amazon, indicating the port was alive and well. The team then made it official this week that the Switch version is coming next year.

November 11: Although it’s been missing in action for quite some time, the Switch version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance still seems to be happening. A listing for the game was added on Amazon this week, complete with the boxart pictured above. Some screenshots are included as well, though they seem to be from the PC version.

The Switch edition of Kingdom Come: Deliverance should launch as a Royal Edition meaning players will receive both the main game and all additional content.

Yesterday, new Koch Media label Prime Matter and Warhorse Studios confirmed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is coming to Switch. The announcement came as a bit of a surprise. Although there were previous rumors about a possible port, many had assumed that it would be a difficult task to get it running on Nintendo’s console.

Warsaw Studios explained how the Switch version came to be in a follow up notice today. It turns out that fan feedback is ultimately what set the whole thing in motion.

According to Warsaw:

Kingdom Come Deliverance

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is heading to Switch, Prime Matter and Warhorse Studios announced today. A release date has not yet been made known.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance was rumored for Switch after it was listed on Nintendo’s Japanese website. The game’s PR manager later indicated that it was a mistake. Ultimately the title will be appearing on Nintendo’s console after all.

Here’s an overview of the game, along with a trailer:

Yesterday, a Switch version of Kingdom Come Deliverance popped up on Nintendo’s Japanese website. The game was listed for a February 18 release. There was some hope – and perhaps an expectation by some – that an official announcement would be happening soon.

Unfortunately though, the listing appears to have been nothing more than an error. PR manager Tobi Stolz-Zwilling indicated that a Switch version of Kingdom Come Deliverance isn’t currently in the cards. No one can say where the listing originated from in the first place, but it’s likely that Nintendo will be removing it soon.
