Ys X Nordics review Switch

System: Switch
Release date: October 24, 2024
Developer: Falcom
Publisher: NIS America

Adol Christin has certainly led an interesting life. Across the series’ thirty-six year lifespan he’s crossed numerous continents, explored the ruins of civilizations past, and saved the world from dire threat on more than one occasion. But, fearless adventurer that he may be, Adol has never had much luck with ships. It seems that every time Adol sets foot on a ship it ends up sinking due to one circumstance or another, so putting him at the helm of one probably sounds like a bad idea. However, Ys X: Nordics does just that, and manages to mostly stay the course to deliver yet another solid entry in the series.

Ys X demo

October 14: Heads up for Ys X: Nordics fans – a demo for the game was just released. NIS America is giving Switch owners a taste of the action ahead of the full launch later this month.

The demo provides fast-paced fighting action, powerful offense, and defense in Solo Mode and Duo Mode, charged elemental attacks with Mana Burst, sailing gameplay, battles on land and sea, and more. Additionally, save data from the demo carries over to the full game.

Falcom and NIS America are presenting at this year’s Anime Expo and have taken the opportunity to announce the worldwide release date for Ys X: Nordics, the latest game in the long-running Ys series. The game will release in the West on October 25, 2024, about a month after its Japanese release.

During the same presentation, a few special editions of the game were also revealed. A Deluxe Edition is available for pre-order at all major retailers, while a Limited Edition is available to pre-order on NIS America’s official site here.

An overview of Ys X: Nordics can be found below, as well as a new release date announcement trailer.

Ys X sales

Falcom recently held a financial results briefing, and during the event, one investor had some criticism for the graphics in Ys X: Nordics. President Toshihiro Kondo responded with some interesting comments.

Kondo mentioned that Falcom is giving consideration to the graphics in its games, but the main issue seems to be time. With the company looking to put out at least one new game each year – whether it’s Ys, The Legend of Heroes, or something else – maximizing visuals isn’t an easy task. Falcom is also putting out new titles with under 100 employees.

Ys X Switch PlayStation development

Ys X: Nordics is a bit of a landmark release for Falcom as it’s the first time that the company’s Switch version launched alongside the PlayStation release. Of course, we’re referring to Japan here – NIS America tends to bring everything over to North America and Europe later.

Toshihiro Kondo spoke about developing Ys X for both Switch and PlayStation in a recent interview with Joshin Web. Falcom kept Nintendo’s console in mind from the beginning, and this version was actually completed first. Kondo did also pointed out how the company needed to consider Switch’s specs in mind during development.
