Yuji Horii, the creator of Dragon Quest, shared a message on the official Dragon Quest X website to ring in 2015. Horii touched on what’s planned for the franchise in the near and far future as Dragon Quest’s 30th anniversary approaches.
The message in full states:
Happy New Year, everyone. There is just one year to go until the 30th anniversary of Dragon Quest.
In February, we will release Dragon Quest Heroes, and in March, Theatrhythm Dragon Quest. Additionally, while still to be announced, there are many projects in planning as we head towards the 30th anniversary. And then there’s the release of Dragon Quest X Version 3.0 in the spring. Together alongside our fans and development staff, I hope we keep making the series even bigger and better!
Life is a role-playing game. Here’s to many more years to come of Dragon Quest!
Given that Dragon Quest’s 30th anniversary is next year, that could be when we hear about the series’ next core entry – Dragon Quest XI.

Dragon Quest X started out as a Wii-only title, but that wasn’t always the plan. Series creator Yuji Horii mentioned during today’s Japanese Nintendo Direct that he’s been wanting to bring the MMORPG to the 3DS since the game’s earlier days of development.
By making Dragon Quest X for 3DS, Square Enix hopes to make the game more comfortable to play and attract new users. The handheld version of the game will have content up to the Ver. 2 major update.

Square Enix has been keen on putting Dragon Quest games on smartphones as of late. But with the series’ next entry, fans can rest easy knowing that it won’t be going the mobile route again.
Creator Yuji Horii, speaking with V Jump, confirmed that he wants to be “more aggressive” in making the next Dragon Quest and it’s not intended for smartphones. Given the franchise’s recent history, it might be safe to say that we’ll be seeing it on a Nintendo platform.

Square Enix is working on next Dragon Quest game
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 9 Comments
At Niconico Super Conference 3 in Chiba, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii stated that Square Enix is “making the next” entry in the series. Horii is almost certainly referring to Dragon Quest XI.
Once Horii mentioned this, Dragon Quest X producer Yosuke Saito as well as chief planner Anzai Takashi looked as though they weren’t expecting him to say that. They were, in other words, indicating that Horii said something he shouldn’t have said. Oops?
