Namco Bandai developing Mario Kart Arcade GP DX
Posted on 11 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Does anyone remember Mario Kart Arcade GP? It was a weird collaboration between Nintendo and Namco Bandai that never really felt like Mario Kart since it had all kinds of crazy additions like a camera that inserted your face into the game, Pac-Man and Tamagotchi characters and what seemed like a hundred items. I guess it never was considered a Mario Kart game since Nintendo outright ignored it when naming Mario Kart 7. Well anyway, there were only two games in the series but now it looks like Namco Bandai are returning to it with Mario Kart Arcade GP DX.
From early screenshots and information it doesn’t seem like a whole lot has changed in the six years since the last game. The gliding and underwater sections from Mario Kart 7 are making a return, and the game features a track and character from Taiko Drum Master. Hopefully the announcer from the previous games won’t be making another appearance. The game will be on display at the Japan Amusement Expo this month.

[Nintendo Everything Christmas Special] The true meaning of Christmas is potential racism
Posted on 11 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in Features, General Nintendo, Podcast Stories, Random | 0 comments
As a show that has been running for over 600 episodes, it makes sense that the Pokemon anime series would have its fair share of Christmas specials, but this time around I only want to focus on the show’s first Christmas special. Holiday Hi-Jynx (I appreciate the restraint in not calling it “Jynx-le Bells”) aired fairly early in the series’ run —early enough for the episode to actually be broadcast.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers coming to the US next year
Posted on 11 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in 3DS, News, Podcast Stories, Videos | 0 comments
It’s been a long wait for Soul Hackers, since this RPG was originally released for the Sega Saturn back in 1997, but it looks like the game will finally be available in English next Spring. Soul Hackers combines the usual dungeon-crawling, demon-fusing gameplay of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise with a heavy cyberpunk influence. Think Ghost in the Shell if it involved actual ghosts.
The game never even recieved a complete fan translation, so it’s great that we’ll be able to play it in English after all these years. And by we I mean those with an North American 3DS. Ghostlight, get in on this!
[Nintendo Everything Christmas Special] The true meaning of Christmas is Toad on a snowboard
Posted on 11 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in Features, General Nintendo, Podcast Stories, Random | 1 Comment
Hey everyone, it’s Patrick here and throughout this week I’ll be celebrating Christmas in the only way relevant to this website – by taking a look at a bunch of terrible Christmas specials based on various Nintendo titles. First up is the Super Mario Bros. Super Show – a late-80’s TV program featuring cartoons based on Super Mario Bros. and Zelda. This Christmas episode —Koopa Klaus— is one of the rare episodes of the show that isn’t just a reference to a popular movie like “Raiders of the Lost Mushroom” or “On Her Majesty’s Sewer Service”, but that doesn’t make it any less awful.
[Review] Liberation Maiden

Suda51 delivers a well-produced mecha anime that’s as hyperactive as it is hyper-nationalistic. But how’s the actual game?

Level 5 really haven’t been having a whole lot of luck when it comes to the 3DS. Professor Layton and Inazuma Eleven might still bring in the cash, but the company’s attempts at starting new IPs like Time Travelers and Girls RPG: Cinderella Life sold poorly. But perhaps their biggest bomb of all was Guild 01, a compilation of quirky games that sold fewer than 15,000 copies upon its first week of release despite having some well-known game designers collaborating on the project. Oddly enough, Level 5 are now giving Guild 01 a second chance by rereleasing most of the games in the compilation through the 3DS eShop. The first of these titles to be available outside of Japan is Liberation Maiden, a 3D shooter heavily inspired by Japanese cartoons – specifically the kind where plot is second to cool robots flying around and blowing stuff up.
European Club Nintendo offering free copy of New Style Boutique with 3DS XL registration
Posted on 11 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in 3DS, 3DS eShop, News | 0 comments
Until January 31st next year, Club Nintendo Europe is giving out a free downloadable copy of New Style Boutique whenever you register a European version of the Nintendo 3DS XL. I mean you could claim a copy of Super Mario 3D Land, New Art Academy, Freakyforms Deluxe or Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask instead, but I’m not sure why you’d want to.
At the moment the promotion is only valid for residents of the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Russia, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal and the Netherlands. You’ll also need to redeem your download code before January 31st.

Best Buy website reveals Wii Mini redesign
Posted on 11 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in News, Rumors, Wii | 0 comments
Earlier this week we reported on rumours that a new “mini” version of the Wii was in production. Now, if Best Buy’s website is anything to go by, this redesigned Wii model should be on store shelves before Christmas. And if the picture on the console’s box is to scale, it looks like it actually is pretty tiny (with a stylish red finish to boot). I’m not entirely sure who this outdated hardware is aimed at, but it should be available in the US on December 7th. The listing has since been removed, but one Neogaf poster took a screenshot of the console on Best Buy’s front page, which you can view over the break.
The Colossal Wii U Launch Game Roundup

I’ve counted no less than 30 games releasing alongside the Wii U in North America tomorrow (or today, depending on when this goes live). So let’s not waste any time going over all the games you might be playing if you’re not waiting two more weeks for the console to come out like I am…
Japanese Wii U Nintendo Direct scheduled for tomorrow
Posted on 12 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
Nintendo of Japan will be broadcasting a special Nintendo Direct presentation tomorrow at 8 PM JST / 6 AM ET / 3 AM PT (that’s a bit less than 11 hours from now). It sure is short notice, but it looks like we’ll finally be getting some information on the Wii U’s operating system and Miiverse. Considering that some news outlets have already got their hands on the console, this news is long overdue.
As usual the presentation will be streaming online and we’ll embed the stream before it goes live.

Classy Mario-themed 3DS XL consoles coming to China
Posted on 12 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in 3DS, News | 3 Comments
iQue, the distributor of Nintendo products in China, will be releasing three special 3DS XL consoles in China this December and boy do they look nice. Not only do they sport fancy Mario designs on the outer shell, but they also come with pre-installed copies of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. A warning for anyone planning on importing one of these snazzy consoles – they belong to a standalone region and won’t play Japanese, American or PAL 3DS games.
