September 19, 2011 – Yo ho, ho, ho – a pirates life for me! In honor of the international celebration today of “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” Disney is sharing with fans the swashbuckling pirate adventures that will be part of the upcoming video game, Disney Universe. Featuring environments and character costumes inspired by Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, Disney Universe is the first video game that brings together characters and worlds inspired by both animated and live action films from Disney’s Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures.

Players can suit up as film characters such as Captain Jack Sparrow, Angelica, Mr. Gibbs, Captain Barbossa and Blackbeard as they navigate their way over the Thames River and through the city streets of London. The new world also includes cannons to fend off the pirate ships, water bombs to prevent London from burning and rubber duck vehicles that players can utilize to engage in a final battle in an attempt to gain access to the Fountain of Youth.

New Game for Nintendo DS Systems Lets Players Collect, Connect and Customize Hundreds of Monsters from the DRAGON QUEST Universe

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 19, 2011 – Now there’s a powerful new way to interact with the wild variety of monsters from the fan-favorite DRAGON QUEST® video game series. Launching today for the Nintendo DS™ family of hand-held systems, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker™ 2 unleashes an epic adventure in which players can recruit, train and battle with imaginative monsters of all shapes and sizes. Better yet, players can create their own customized monsters by synthesizing two different ones and blending their unique traits and capabilities. With the built-in wireless features of Nintendo DS systems, it’s also simple and fun for users to connect with each other – locally and around the world – to share game data and engage in memorable monster battles together.

In Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, players take on the role of a Monster Scout who has crash-landed on a mysterious island. To rescue missing passengers and members of the airship crew, they must assemble a strong team of monsters and fend off enemies in strategic turn-based battles. The game includes more than 300 monsters that can be recruited for battle and synthesized with other monsters to create new, more powerful ones. With more than 240 skill trees to choose from, players can customize their teams to prepare for all kinds of enemy encounters. Some monsters – including the iconic Slime – return from previous installments in the DRAGON QUEST series, while others are new.

New Hand-Held Adventure Lets Players Control Up to 10 Kirbys at the Same Time

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– If a group of lions is called a pride, and a group of dolphins is called a pod, what do you call a multitude of pink Kirby™ characters who swarm together for an action-packed portable adventure? The answer is Kirby™ Mass Attack, launching today for the Nintendo DS™ family of hand-held systems. This new installment in the fan-favorite Kirby franchise challenges players to control as many as 10 Kirbys at the same time as they smash through obstacles, defeat enemies and access new areas while adventuring through a series of colorful side-scrolling worlds.

In the Kirby Mass Attack game, the evil Necrodeus uses his magic staff to split the heroic Kirby into 10 copies of himself. Players must help Kirby return to his original form and save planet Popstar from darkness by guiding him on a quest through worlds fraught with enemies and obstacles. Players start with one Kirby and add more Kirbys to their crew by gobbling up fruit. With unique touch-screen controls, players can then use the stylus to flick Kirbys to break through obstacles, tap on enemy attackers to swarm them with Kirbys or gather Kirbys together and draw a line to carefully maneuver them in a mass. If Kirbys are knocked out, players can simply gulp down more fruit to rebuild their numbers.

Dual analog controls were something that fans would have been interested in seeing with the PSP. Responding to those requests, Sony made it a point to include two sticks for Vita. Nintendo also had the opportunity to include dual analog controls with their new portable, the 3DS, but opted for one Circle Pad instead.

As we saw just recently, however, Nintendo wasn’t satisified with one analog nub. That’s why they introduced the 3DS Circle Pad accesorry that numerous high-profile titles will take advantage of.

The additional Circle Pad attachment caused quite a bit of controversy when it was first revealed. Even some third-party developers aren’t pleased with the news.

You might be wondering what Sony thinks about the 3DS Circle Pad attachment. Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment’s worldwide studios, actually said in a recent interview that “It was a bit shocking to see what they came up with.”

Here’s his full remarks:

“Well it’s not like they looked at PS Vita and said ‘we need to do that as well.’ I don’t know. It’s clear that they didn’t believe a second analog was necessary when they designed the 3DS, so I can only guess it was requested by Capcom’s side. Maybe a Capcom producer told Nintendo that to play Monster Hunter we need [two] analog sticks. That I don’t know, so I can only guesstimate. It was a bit shocking to see what they came up with.”
