Remember when Masahiro Sakurai said he was looking into bringing Kid Icarus to the eShop? It looks like he was successful in doing so, except the final product will be more than just a port of the NES title. Nintendo has revealed that the classics game will be receiving the “3D Classics” treatment.

Players who participate in a “Chotto Mario na Nintendo 3DS Campaign” will receive the download for free. 3000 winners will obtain a special Mario-themed 3DS – three designs were shown. 3D Classics: Kid Icarus will eventually be offered as a paid download as well.

Who’s up for some early morning fun with Nintendo later this morning? I know I am!

In seven hours, Nintendo of Japan will be streaming a “Nintendo 3DS New Information Internet Presentation”. As has been the case with similar events on the site recently, I’ll post the UStream embed video about a half hour before the event begins. Any videos, information, and other significant content that rolls in will be added on the main page as well.

I wouldn’t expect any megatons since Nintendo literally held a major press conference a month ago. If there were some truly huge announcements planned, I’m sure the Big N would have opted for another conference. This event, however, is a pre-recorded show of sorts. There should be some interesting content shown, but don’t set the bar too high! We’ll find out more about Mario Kart 7 and upcoming firmware features for sure. There could be other items that will be discussed, too, such as the complete GBA Ambassador game lineup.

Anyway, it should be well worth a watch. See you all in seven hours!

Nintendo has announced the platinum Japanese Club Nintendo for 2011. Members who have obtained the status can select a “Dot Mario Cushion” item, two soundtracks out of five, or a pair of two table calenders. The three soundtracks that aren’t chosen can be purchased for 400 points.
