Yoshio Sakamoto just finished hosting his lecture at the 2010 Game Developer’s Conference. You can check out some highlights of what was said below…

– “I consider myself the one who raised Samus. After all, the one who gave birth to Metroid is the Queen Metroid, right?”
– Friend Collection has almost sold 3 million copies in Japan
– Players will be able to download a micro-game in WarioWare D.I.Y. created by Sakamoto
– Storyline in Metroid: Other M starts right after Super Metroid ended
– Sakamoto inspired/moved by the films from Luc Besson (Leon); John Woo (A Better Tomorrow), Brian De Palma (Carrie)
– “I have great admiration for these directors, but it’s not like I have a complex about it or try to become one.”
– “To be honest, I am not a movie fanatic. However films have opened my eyes to techniques that can bring a story to life.”
– “The techniques for designing comedic games is very similar to the techniques used to create serious/scary games.”
– Mii Channel an idea resulting from Tomodachi Collection
– “I tell the story of Samus as a young girl and reveal her relationship with Adam, but that’s just a portion of Other M.”
– “(Other M is) the synthesis of all the knowhow I’ve acquired and the culmination of all the things I’ve been envisioning…”
– Sakamoto was against having the nunchuck included as part of Other M’s controls, even though Team Ninja suggested it
– Devs wanted Samus to work on a rail, but were able to make the Wiimote work without the nunchuk to create a 3D experience with a snappy 2D feel
– Nintendo, with D-Rockets and Taiyo Kimkaku created storyboards by Ryuzi Kitaura, groups focused on CG and soundtrack production
– Kuniaki Haishima working on the music for Other M
– Jessica Martin voice acting Samus in Other M, worked with many other studios, code name was Project M
– “Games can touch people and move them.”
– “I believe that it’s our job to take those moments that our spirits have been moved and represent them with understandable forms.”

“The thing with motion controls is that it’s perhaps not conducive to lengthy gaming sessions because you’d have to move both hands and arms for an extended period of time,” said Tsujimoto, producer of Monster Hunter Tri. “I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with motion controls, quite the opposite, but it wasn’t appropriate with Monster Hunter Tri.” – Ryozo Tsujimoto, Monster Hunter Tri producer

I’m perfectly fine with the fact that Monster Hunter Tri doesn’t use motion controls. In fact, the game probably works out better with the Classic Controller Pro anyway.
