Gearbox co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Brian Martel has yet again delivered very positive remarks about the Wii U.

In an interview with Deadspin, Martel noted:

“We really like the Wii U. I think it’s a really cool platform. I like what they’re doing – obviously with the touchscreen – and it will be interesting to see what Microsoft do with their approach to that idea. It’s one of those problems of the Wii: the only people who have ever made a lot of money on the Wii is Nintendo. So we’re really excited to bring Aliens: Colonial Marines to it. And we’re going to do a wait and see approach, our publisher 2K is going to see whether they’re going to go with that.”

Martel was asked about his thoughts of how Borderlands 2 would be like on Wii U. While a Wii U version isn’t in development, Martel seemed excited with the possibility. He specifically pointed to inventory management as something that “would be amazing” on the console.

“If Borderlands 2 was on the Wii U, the thing I would be most excited about is inventory management: it would be amazing on that, it would just be fantastic. And I think the artwork would look really good, with the way they can deal with the resolutions and textures, I think it’s a really good console.”

A new downloadable reward is available at Club Nintendo.

Electroplankton Rec-Rec has been swapped out for the DSiWare title Starship Defense. The game is available for 150 coins.

You can order Starship Defense here. It’s available as a 3DS download until July 29.

This is the second time in the span of a few days that a third-party publisher has suggested a November launch for Wii U.

We posted about SEGA’s indication last night, and now D3Publisher has followed up with a more specific date of its own. If the publisher is to be believed, the console will be available by November 23 in Europe as will the Rise of the Guardians title.

Take a look at the European game announcement below…

Since its inception, NetherRealm Studios has only made fighting games. That started with Mortal Kombat in 2011 and will continue through 2013 with Injustice: Gods Among Us.

While there’s no doubt that fighting titles are NetherRealm’s specialty, Ed Boon hopes to branch out into other genres in the future.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon told the PlayStation Blog the following when asked about making a non-fighting project:

“We feel like Injustice is kind of our first step towards that. If it does well, we would like to see our next step be a non-fighting game, maybe something unique in its own right. This is our first step in that direction.”

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has returned with more “positive” commentary about the Wii U.

Speaking at the Develop Conference in Brighton last week, Patcher expressed doubt in Nintendo’s new console. He also spoke about his belief that Activision persuaded Nintendo to make the Wii U Pro Controller so that “big games like Call Of Duty” could come to the system.

He said:

“(Wii U) isn’t going to work. I don’t get it. I think that essentially this is a solution in search of a problem. I mean, somebody had an idea – ‘let’s make the controller a tablet’ – and there aren’t many games that are going to take advantage of that. Activision never said anything to me, but I know that [for] big games like Call Of Duty they said, ‘No, we’re not putting it on there if you don’t give us a conventional controller’. So they gave in.”

Patcher went on to discuss Nintendo’s approach to their hardware, thinking that innovative ideas will lead to success. In the case of Wii U (and opposed to the Wii), he feels that Nintendo isn’t “getting lucky”:

“(The Wii is) gimmicky. It worked, they got lucky, [but] I don’t think they’re getting lucky with Wii U. I don’t think they suck – I just think that they really believe that, ‘If we’re still novel, everything we do will work’. This isn’t going to work. Hardcore gamers will buy them; hardcore Nintendo fanboys will buy it. They could put out a piece of cardboard and say that it’ll play Mario and they’ll buy it.”

Capcom will hold a press conference in Cologne one day before the start of Gamescom 2012. The publisher’s event is set for Tuesday August 14th at 11.00 CET.

This year marks Capcom’s “biggest ever presence” at Gamescom, and its own conference will be an “event to remember”.

The company will likely have a few things to say about its already-announced games, but perhaps there’ll be a reveal or two. I’m personally pulling for a Monster Hunter Tri G localization announcement (a man can dream!).
