Revelations producer on possible Resident Evil reboot, future, 3DS sales

One day in the future, Capcom’s legendary Resident Evil series could see a reboot.
Resident Evil: Revelations producer Masachika Kawata commented on the possibility of changes following Resident Evil 6’s mixed reception, and specifically commented on the suggestion of a more open-world approach in a Eurogamer interview:
“If we did [go with an open-world], we would want to preserve what Resident Evil is and what makes it appealing to fans, while also making it accessible to new players. It would almost entail having a slight reboot to get the series into a place where it would work with open-world gameplay. That’s just a personal opinion. A lot of decisions would have to be taken before something like that is done to the series, but it is something that… There is a possibility.”

Satoru Iwata has been Nintendo’s corporate president and CEO for over a decade. But if the company can’t reach a goal of 100 billion yen in operating income for the next fiscal year, Iwata has hinted that he may be willing to step down.
Iwata noted during an analysts’ meeting earlier today:
“We feel greatly accountable for this severe outlook. …we plan to actively release our key titles for Nintendo 3DS which could potentially lead the markets this year.”
Iwata was later asked how he would take responsibility if the goal is not met. In response, he said:
“Please understand that [achieving it] is my commitment.”
Ubisoft shelved a Prince of Persia game in 2011

After releasing Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands in 2010, Ubisoft Montreal began work on a new entry in the series. The project, which would have landed on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and perhaps a Nintendo platform given the franchise’s past – was canned one year later.
Christophe Prélot, a senior level artist at Ubisoft, lists the shelved Prince of Persia as being “FPP”. That means the game was in a first playable publishable stage – it may have been nothing more than CG before being scrapped.
Ubisoft stated earlier this week the Prince of Persia series has been “paused”. The series may not resurface for quite some time, but Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat nonetheless said the IP is “as important as any other franchise” for the company.

Ubisoft’s Osiris was officially outed last night. But bad news for those looking forward to the new IP from the maker of Assassin’s Creed: it’s no longer in the works.
A Ubisoft representative confirmed that it pulled the plug on the project:
“The content in question was from a Ubisoft project that is no longer moving forward.”
Ubisoft didn’t clarify when it shelved Osiris, nor did it say how long its Montreal studio was working on the title.

Masahiro Sakurai dealing with bad RSI, says he should use his hands less

RSI– also known as “repetitive strain injury”– is a painful muscle/joint/bone/something condition that can be brought on by extensive and strenuous use of a particular muscle in the human body. The latest victim of this relatively common condition is Smash Bros. director and Kirby series creator Masahiro Sakura, who says many years of programming and testing has left his hands in pain too often to do excessive work:
“Using a mouse, keyboard or gamepad make my arm tired, so I can’t use them in a continual manner. The only device I can use for an extended period of time is a joystick. It’s posing problems when I’m test-playing something in progress.”
“I figure that if I cut down on writing emails and other things, try not to type in so much data myself, and start giving more verbal directions, that’ll reduce the amount of keyboard-oriented work I have to do. But if I’m going to be supervising other people’s work, there’s no way to cut down the amount of mouse usage I need to perform. I’m trying to work it with my left hand in order to give the right one some rest, but that definitely cuts down on my work efficiency…”
So what’s a prolific game designer to do!? Sakurai says he’s going to try using a trackball mouse instead of a traditional one. Best of luck to him! I hope it helps him regain the efficiency he desires.

Ubisoft working on new IP, “Osiris”?
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Rumors | 0 comments
Superannuation has uncovered what appears to be a brand new IP from Ubisoft. Ubisoft Montreal, the maker of Assassin’s Creed, is apparently hard at work on “Osiris” – a new game set in Egypt. A “rough cut demo” trailer can be found here.
Does any of this look or sound familiar? It should. Just before E3 2012, trailer images from an unannounced Ubisoft title leaked out. Osiris and last year’s mysterious leak seem to be related.
