There’s been some concern that Nintendo has been cracking down on “Let’s Play” YouTube videos. The main issue? Users are sending in complaints regarding blocked videos.

Nintendo has since issued an official response to the situation. In a statement provided to GameFront, the company explained that some videos may now be accompanied by ads, but other than that, everything should be status quo.

As part of our on-going push to ensure Nintendo content is shared across social media channels in an appropriate and safe way, we became a YouTube partner and as such in February 2013 we registered our copyright content in the YouTube database. For most fan videos this will not result in any changes, however, for those videos featuring Nintendo-owned content, such as images or audio of a certain length, adverts will now appear at the beginning, next to or at the end of the clips. We continually want our fans to enjoy sharing Nintendo content on YouTube, and that is why, unlike other entertainment companies, we have chosen not to block people using our intellectual property.

Later this year, Watch_Dogs will enter the same position as Assassin’s Creed when it launched in 2007. Watch_Dogs will just getting its feet wet on the market, but there are nevertheless high expectations.

Ubisoft is also banking on the IP becoming a hit, especially from a sales standpoint. EMEA executive director Alain Corre said during a financial call today that the title “can do probably as well or probably even better than Assassin’s Creed I”.

“Watch_Dogs can do probably as well or probably even better than AC1, in the target we’ve given we’ve taken quantity that are below AC1. So that’s the point.”

We haven’t seen a whole lot of CryEngine 3-supported games on Wii U. However, Precursor Games is taking advantage of the tech to create Shadow of the Eternals – a game that will come to the eShop in due time.

Running CryEngine 3 on the Wii U wasn’t difficult, according to Precursor. Responding to one fan during a Facebook Q&A, the company said that “it’s not hard at all. The CryEngine3 fully supports the Wii U”.

Now if only DICE and EA could say the same about the Frostbite engine…

Fun Activities and Giveaways Planned Around the Release of Nintendo 3DS Game

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– To celebrate the launch of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for Nintendo 3DS on May 24, Nintendo is partnering with the Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens on Memorial Day weekend (May 24-27) to host an event on the L.A. Zoo grounds. The four-day event will feature fun activities for all members of the family, including an interactive experience at the Campo Gorilla Reserve, various demo stations where attendees can play the Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D game and coupon giveaways for $5 off the game at participating GameStop retail stores. For the weekend, the gorilla area will be temporarily renamed the “Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D at Campo Gorilla Reserve.”

“Fans will get a chance to spend time with Donkey Kong and some of his friends from the animal kingdom at the L.A. Zoo this Memorial Day weekend,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “They’ll be able to experience a fun day with Nintendo at the zoo and play Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.”


Well, this should do it. WWE 2K14 won’t be coming to the Wii U, assuming 2K Sports doesn’t make a last-minute announcement.

The official WWE Games Twitter account wrote yesterday that the game “will only be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.”

I’ve never been a big video game sports player, but it’s concerning to see that the Wii U is missing out on these types of titles. You would think that sports games would be a shoe-in for the console. Yet, the Wii U now won’t be receiving WWE 2K14, Madden, and FIFA. I wouldn’t be surprised if 2K Sports decides to keep NBA 2K off the system this year as well.

There are some really smart people out there who do really cool things, and thanks to those smart people we now know more about what’s inside the Wii U Gamepad, both from a hardware perspective and a hardware perspective. Here’s the breakdown of what we’ve learned:

– The Gamepad has upgradable firmware, meaning its functionality could expand over time
– One of the folks working on reverse engineering the Gamepad says this could mean cloud-based gaming/functionality in the future
– You could send the Gamepad data to the internet instead of to the Gamepad, play it from there/access it
– “Only speculation”, he says, “[nothing] in the firmware that would indicate they are planning to do this”
– Dual-Gamepad support is already built in, so developers could technically use it if they wanted
