Nintendo’s Gamescom 2012 absence explained
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Wii U | 0 comments
Nintendo has traditionally been an exhibitor at Gamescom. This year, however, the company has decided not to attend the show.
It still isn’t entirely clear why Nintendo is pretty much skipping out on the expo, but a PR group has provided an explanation – somewhat.
Bergsala PR Manager Patrik Johansson stated:
“Whilst Gamescom is a fantastic show, Nintendo has taken the decision not to attend this year’s event. Instead Nintendo is planning a number of sampling events later this year inline with the European Marketing-, PR- and Event-activities in which Nintendo´s fans will have the opportunity to play upcoming games. Further details will be announced soon.”
GoldenEye 007 tidbits, including last minute multiplayer addition
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
GoldenEye 007 wasn’t always a N64 game. At one point, it had been imagined for the SNES. GoldenEye 007 director Martin Holli eventually assembled a small team – comprised mostly of brand new developers – and expanded on his original ideas.
Speaking at GDC Europe this week, Holli noted that the project renewed on the N64, but the team was unsure how the actual console controller would turn out. Due to rumors that the controller would include an analog stick, Rare was able to transition away from an on-rails experience with a Virtua Cop-like theme and more toward a game that allowed Bond to have access to full movement.
One other noteworthy insight from Holli relates to GoldenEye 007’s multiplayer, which was added in at the last minute. Believe it or not, it wasn’t until this feature took shape that the higher-ups at Rare and Nintendo found out about its existence.
GoldenEye 007 took almost three years to make. Hollis said this wasn’t planned, but it’s crazy to think that Rare essentially shoehorned multiplayer in despite being behind schedule.

Capcom talking about Wii U game “very soon”
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
Capcom’s Gamescom 2012 conference is done and over with, but none of the news was Wii U-related (and there was nothing about Monster Hunter Tri G…).
Now, we do know that Capcom has at least one Wii U project in development. Apparently this game will be shown “very soon.”
According to Capcom’s head of marketing for US and Europe Michael Pattison:
“There is a rumour that we are working on a Wii U game. It won’t be at this show. But we do have something waiting in the wings, and we will be talking about that very soon.”
Will this Wii U title be another version of a multiplatform title? Will it be an original game? A new Okami (yes please)? Capcom’s newly announced Remember Me could be a good fit on Wii U…

Media Factory has released a special Mario piggy bank in Japan. The “Super Mario Bros. Sound Bank Retro” is available starting today for 399 yen.
This product is a bit different compared to the average piggy bank. When you insert a coin, a Mario-themed sound effect plays out. Classic sounds include a coin sound, a mushroom sound, a pipe sound, and a game over sound.
Consumers can choose from six different piggy banks. Each type offers four sound effects.
