Soriti Horse is a rather peculiar game. It’s certainly not something that most would thought that the developer behind Pokemon would have created.

But Soriti Horse was made possible due to the company’s unique “Gear” system, Game Freak programmer Masao Taya told Famitsu:

“Yes, for starters, let’s talk about Game Freak’s very own unique system. At Game Freak, there’s a system called ‘Gear’ where anyone can start up a plan, and then if they can get three staff members together who say ‘that looks like fun,’ we can begin a manufacturing trial. It’s a system that began about three years ago, which was applied towards this opportunity.”

“There are many staff members at Game Freak who think, ‘I want to make a fun and original game’ and we’re always thinking about what we can do for new games. The company itself has as policy of wanting to release new titles, so the system is made for that.”

Gory Detail, led by former Rare staffer Chris Seavor, has become an official 3DS developer. The company shared the news on Twitter today, writing:

Gory Detail is also developing for Wii U. The studio’s new project called Rusty Pup is slated for the console.

Fixie Joe is one of the first Wii U titles from Retromade Games. Originally released for iOS and Android, the new version for Nintendo’s console “will have some improvements on visuals and maybe even some extras involving the Gamepad”, according to CEO Jose Gallardo.

Retromade is also bringing Hell-IX to Wii U. Thankfully, even if the game’s Kickstarter stretch goal isn’t met, it’ll still come to the system – though the game “will be substantially delayed”.

“Yes, but the release date will be substantially delayed; this is because we need to share our time with freelance work for other companies in order to finance our own projects.”

Retromade is looking to release Hell-IX around Christmas. As far as taking advantage of the Wii U, Gallardo said the amount and type of features largely depends on how the Kickstarter campaign performs.

“This depends on many factors, as I said, we are small studio and don’t have endless funds. The Kickstarter was created to help us continue with development and if the stretch goals are achieved, we will feature more modes, levels and Wii U specifics. If we get funded or if we can find an investor, we were thinking about some upgrades like online co-operative mode. We are definitely considering touch controls, which will be used to select targets and other stuff.”

As far as what lies ahead for Retromade, the team may release more maps, “but we want to focus on other games, we have plans for a strategic game located in an alternative present and future.” The indie dev would “also like to develop an MMO based on ancient Asian mythology” as well as create a 3DS version of Fixie Joe.

Ripstone has officially announced Knytt Underground and Pure Chess for Wii U following the titles’ reveal during last week’s Nintendo Direct. Both are scheduled for a release towards the end of 2013/start of 2014.

Ripstone co-founder and creative director Phil Gaskell commented on the news, and also confirmed more support for the eShop in the future:

“We’re committed to helping developers bring their games to as many digital channels as possible and this announcement demonstrates that commitment. We think Nintendo gamers are going to love spending hours exploring the world of Knytt Underground and will be blown away by the visual quality of Pure Chess, and we hope to announce more games for eShop in the future.”

One other important piece of news: Ripstone has confirmed that Pure Chess will be coming to the 3DS as well. When this version will be launching is unclear, however.
