During the last hardware generation, Nintendo was known for its unique control schemes. The Wii introduced motion controls. The DS provided dual-screen gameplay.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata spoke about the company’s approach to new control types at a recent investor briefing Q&A. His comments came in response to one attendee who expressed disappointment in how these new schemes contributed to the creation of fresh experiences.

Iwata said:

atlus trauma center under the knife

“From hereafter also, the development and sales of the Atlus brand as well as the consumer business will continue. Other retail and download titles that are currently on sale will continue to be sold as they are currently.”

– Official Statement from Atlus

As a big fan of Atlus’ work myself, this is great news. What will happen to the parent company (and where Atlus may end up after their rough patch) is still up in the air, but with any luck things will maintain their current scheduling at the developer themselves.

Pokemon Global Link features for the Pokemon Black/White and Black/White 2 games will be going dark on January 14, 2014. A few items, such as the end of Dream World registrations, will end this October – October 12, specifically. Some features including the ability to use GTS and Free Mode in Random Matchups in the game will be kept in tact, however.

Pokemon X/Y will usher in a new Global Link. This is set for release in October – the same time the new 3DS games launch. Players who register with their existing usernames will be able to bring over some achievements and statistics to the new Global Link.

You can find more details about the Global Link shutdown here.

Renegade Kid will regain the rights to Moon next year. Once that happens, the studio will have full control over the franchise. Sequels will be possible, or even… an updated version of the original, maybe?

When asked if Renegade Kid could consider an upscale/remake version of Moon for Wii U, Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham said the following:

Source

Following up on messages posted on Twitter last night, Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham has shared additional comments regarding the situation surrounding Moon.

Watsham indicated that Renegade Kid always had interest in creating a sequel, but wasn’t able to convince publisher Mastiff to move forward with such a project. While a new Moon game isn’t in development, Renegade Kid will be able to create a sequel when they regain the IP rights next year – if they so choose.

You can find Watsham’s original Twitter comments here.

There may be some hope for a new Moon game. According to Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham, the studio will regain the IP’s rights next year.

Watsham tweeted a short while ago that Renegade Kid’s agreement with publisher Mastiff was for five years. Since the game came out in 2009, Moon will revert back to the developer in 2014.

Moon sequel for the eShop, anyone?!

The third Zero Escape game is not yet in production, according to creator Kotaro Uchikoshi.

Uchikoshi told GamesRadar that he has the title’s story “developed in my head, but it hasn’t really gone into production yet.”

Uchikoshi couldn’t say when the team will begin making the new Zero Escape. However, Uchikoshi did say, “maybe in the near future we can proceed.”

The story itself I pretty much have developed in my head, but it hasn’t really gone into production yet. There’s no promises yet, but maybe in the near future we can proceed. This is all from the fact that I was invited to GDC to speak, and that we were nominated for best narrative. That sort of led to the users’ voice saying, “We want the next one,” and that is pushing it. Thanks to the users, the company has pushed forward with thinking to the next level of actual development, but there’s no promises just yet.
