Activision will be bringing The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct to Wii U.

According to producer Glenn Gamble, the title will take advantage of the GamePad for a more streamlined inventory management system. Players will have access to their backpack at all times, and can easy swap out weapons.

Gamble told Digital Spy:

“We were over halfway through the project when the Wii U thing started coming about. We didn’t want to change the game, because the game had already been established, so we tried to say, ‘What can we augment with the Wii U version?’ That’s where it’s basically a more elegant inventory management system. With the Wii U you have access to your backpack at all times, so you can tap what weapons you want, you can drop stuff. It’s a lot more streamlined.”

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct has a European release date of March 29 on all platforms.

Once Renegade Kid wrapped up development on Dementium II, the studio was searching for a new DS project to take on. Finding a title that publishers would take interest in wasn’t so easy, however.

And thus Renegade Kid turned to sales data. While the studio knew a particular genre wouldn’t necessarily lead to success, according to Renegade Kid’s Jools Watsham, “it at least shows you where audiences have existed”, suggesting “at least suggests they may still exist.”

A couple of genres popped out – racing titles and virtual pet games. Based on its research, Renegade Kid did decide to make a concept for a pet title at one point. Ultimately the pitch wasn’t picked up.

Watsham wrote on his blog:

“Believe it or not, we did actually create a concept for a virtual pet game, but never found a home for it. That’s probably a good thing.”

This is just one tidbit from Watsham’s new blog post, which gives insight into Renegade Kid’s . You can view the full write-up here.

Pokemon X and Y may feature 3D visuals, but it isn’t a reboot in the slightest. Pokemon Company International director of consumer marketing J.C. Smith says that these latest games simply represent “new things and express the world in a new way.”

“There’s never been a conscious decision to reboot. There’s always been an evolution of the look and feel; it just happens to be that we played Black and White, and Heart Gold and Soul Silver, and Diamond and Pearl, and Platinum — all of those games on the same platform. So it feels like it’s been a long time in the same way. But between the original Game Boy and Game Boy Color, and moving up into the DS now, it’s always had that change. There’s never been a conscious decision to reboot, it’s just a decision to try new things and express the world in a new way.”

A few key Retro Studios staffers left the company in 2008 and went on to form Armature Studio. Since then, it has only produced one game – Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for Vita.

It wasn’t all quiet for Armature over the past four years, however. Armature worked on a few now-canned projects, like “a military FPS game for the Nintendo Wii system” that was in development in late 2009. I wonder what that would have been like…
