An overview of the Wii U’s specs, developer commentary

Eurogamer posted a new article today about the Wii U’s specs. While not confirmed by Nintendo, the site spoke to a number of developers who provided a look at some of the hardware’s aspects.
This is what Eurogamer was told about the CPU, RAM, and GPU:
The CPU: The Wii U’s IBM-made CPU is made up of three Power PC cores. We’ve been unable to ascertain the clock speed of the CPU (more on this later), but we know out of order execution is supported.
RAM in the final retail unit: 1GB of RAM is available to games.
GPU: The Wii U’s graphics processing unit is a custom AMD 7 series GPU. Clock speed and pipelines were not disclosed, but we do know it supports DirectX 10 and shader 4 type features. We also know that eDRAM is embedded in the GPU custom chip in a similar way to the Wii.
Believe me when I say that there’s a whole lot more on Eurogamer. There’s a ton of developer commentary from studios including Blitz Games, Two Tribes, and more. You can view the entire article here.

SEGA, Gearbox reveal Escape mode for Aliens: Colonial Marines
Posted on 13 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
SEGA and Gearbox Software provided the first information on a new multiplayer mode for Aliens: Colonial Marines today.
In Escape mode, a team of four US Colonial Marines players takes on four-player Xenomorph team. While the humans look to escape, the Xenomorphs will try to take down their prey as soon as possible. According to SEGA, “players will have to work together as a team, utilizing each faction’s unique skills, and identifying their opponents’ weak spots to either reach the safety of the escape point or to eliminate their targets.”
This is the second competitive multiplayer mode announced for Aliens: Colonial Marines. A competitive death match game mode had been confirmed awhile back.

Remember the WiiWare title Heavy Fire: Special Operations? Interestingly, developer Teyon has ported it to the 3DS.
A new version, named Heavy Fire: Special Operations 3D, is coming to the eShop. It will be released on September 13 for $4.99.
The gameplay remains unchanged in the 3DS version. It’s still an on-rails shooter with six levels to go through. More information can be found on Nintendo’s game page.
