Yes, the game is fantastic. But why isn’t anyone talking about what’s wrong with it?

Author: Austin

The time has probably long since past during which a review of Fire Emblem: Awakening would have been suitable, so instead of going through the paces of telling you what you need to know in order to make an informed decision about whether or not to purchase the game, I’ll start off here with this: It’s probably the best game on 3DS, and even those with a distaste for the franchise’s previous entries will find something to like about it. If you haven’t played the game yet, please do so before reading what I’m about to write, because what I’m about to write will be filled with minor spoilers and negative thoughts about a game that is best played before hearing either of those things!

This is part one of a two or three part series on Awakening in which I’ll be doing my best to intelligently discuss some of the finer points of the game. These are things that everyone I’ve talked to has neglected to mention exist, either out of blind adoration for the title (which is fine– everyone gets that way about some games), or because they simply didn’t notice them.

Hit the break for the actual thing.

So at the very beginning of this video I say the whole “This episode is brought to you by thing”, but you’ll notice that there are no ZombiU images. Somehow I just forgot to add them, so… we’re gonna hope I didn’t forget anything else! That’s what you get when you stay up until 7AM editing in order to get the game up on a relevant date.

Zelda: Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword possess very different art styles. Whereas Twilight Princess is rather dark and brown to fit the atmosphere, you could say that Skyward Sword is much more colorful.

One passionate fan has come up with an intriguing mix of the two games. GBAtemp member “disbala” is working on a Twilight Princess texture pack (requires Dolphin) that incorporates the style of Skyward Sword.

While not complete, you can already see how noticeably different Twilight Princess looks with Skyward Sword’s style. You can find a few example shots above.

Thanks to Yono for the tip.

WayForward has given fresh details about the previously-announced Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition update.

The patch will make use of re-balanced audio levels, improved headphone support, and new file compression – the size will be 40% smaller. A new playable character, Pixel Patty, is also packed in.

WayForward has additionally reconfirmed plans to release Mighty Switch Force! HD in Australia and New Zealand.

A release date for the update will be announced soon.

Update: Not all information discovered through the site leak was accurate, but it sounds like quite a bit was. Official details here.

A pulled test page on Precursor Games’ website has revealed the first details about Shadow of the Eternals, where it goes by the earlier name Shadow of the Ancients.

Shadow of the Eternals is coming to both Wii U and PC. A release is planned for the fourth quarter of 2014, according to the FAQ portion of the page.

Fans can expect an action-adventure experience with horror elements mixed in. It’s strictly a single-player experience – a note reads:

“We believe that single player games are very much alive in this industry, and present a cinematic experience to the gamer unlike any other.”

IGN has posted a new trailer for a brand new game titled “Shadow of the Eternals”. This is a spiritual successor to Silicon Knights’ Eternal Darkness, with developers from the GameCube game involved – including Denis Dyack.

Shadow of the Eternals is being made by Precursor Games. Currently, platforms have not been confirmed. It appears that a crowdfunding campaign will begin in just a couple of days.

Following up on his article published on CVG earlier today, Rob Crossley added on Twitter a short while ago that “there are some really special things lined up for Wii U.” Christmas will be an “interesting” time for the console, Crossley says.

What we’re referring to, of course, is CVG’s report that Mario’s new 3D adventure for Wii U will be available by October. The site also claims that Nintendo is getting ready to promote its console through a big and global marketing campaign.

CVG has posted a smattering of Wii U rumors today, led by speculation that Mario’s debut 3D outing for the console will be available by October.

The site says that it has had talks “with retail chains at the executive level”. One of its sources claims that Nintendo has been intentionally holding back on some of its games such as Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, and Wii Fit U, so that it can come out strong in the second half of 2013. However, a separate source denies this to be the case.

Asda isn’t the only major retailer to have dropped the Wii U’s price in recent days.

Over at Amazon, the outlet has matched Asda’s Wii U Basic Pack price, marking it down to £149. The same price was also detected on Base.com.
