Nintendo Everything won’t be the same come Tuesday. A change is on the way.

For an idea as to what we have in store, here’s a look at our new logo:

Ah yes, it is that time of year again– time to start preparing and setting up our participation in Extra Life 2013! Last year we participated for the first time ever and managed to play video games for 24 hours straight while people watched us live over the internet. This year, it’s going to be the same deal only BIGGER, BADDER, and BETTER than ever! So, here’s the low-down:

What is Extra Life? What have you gotten yourselves into this time?

Extra Life is a charity organization that is most famous for setting up a global 24-hour gaming marathon that has gamers attempting to play any game– board game, video game, card game, etc– for 24 hours straight without stopping. Anyone can participate, and your fundraising goal can be any amount you want– don’t hesitate to sign up yourself if you think you can get a few friends or family members to pitch in a couple bucks.

100% of the money goes to the charity, and it’s used to purchase video games and consoles for kids who are chronically ill or otherwise have to stay in hospitals for extended periods. The games are meant to help take their minds off of what they may be going through, which I’m sure many of you who have spent time in a hospital can relate to!

Update (9/29): Reminder: it’s tomorrow!

It’s been awhile, but we’re finally hosting another Game Night this weekend – and the schedule should be on track from here on out.

Join us this Sunday at 4 PM ET / 1 PM PT for some Wii U/3DS online fun. We’ll open the chat about a half hour before things begin. I’m guessing Mario Kart 7 will be the game of choice on 3DS, and possibly Black Ops II on Wii U.

Not just the 3D Marios, but the 2D ones as well!

This is a survey that requires no signing up, accounts, clicking through ads, or anything. Just answer a required question, answer a non-required question (if you want) and make your voice heard in yet another NintendoEverything reader survey poll thing! Results will be read in the form of our top ten list on the next podcast, and if you opted to answer the written question your answer could be read on the show! So don’t say anything ridiculous.

Thanks very much. As stated above the topic for you guys this week is “How satisfied are you with the direction that the Mario franchise is taking?”.

Take the survey here! (more details inside if you’re confused)

As we’ve hinted at previously, we’re changing up the schedule for Game Nights. From here on out, we’ll be hosting each event somewhere around the start of the month.

Here’s the lineup of Game Nights for the rest of year:

October – September 29
November – November 3
December – December 1

Game Nights used to be a weekly occurrence. However, Austin and I both feel that monthly events would be the best approach to take moving forward. For one thing, we don’t want people to get burned out with the whole thing – it’s better to have that feeling of wanting more as opposed to ultimately being bored with the whole affair. There are other factors involved as well – such as scheduling and what have you – so I do believe this will be beneficial for everyone involved, including Austin and I.

I’m truly, truly sorry if we’ve disappointed anyone who has been participating in Game Nights. With this new schedule, I can guarantee that we won’t be making any additional major changes to the event in the future.

We’ve got the poll ready and waiting for you below. All you need is an idea of which online games for Wii U and 3DS you’d want to play this coming Sunday at 4PM ET. We’ll take a look at the votes and let you know which games we’ll be playing in time for you to prepare. Friends will be added on Sunday in the IRC chat.

Please don’t fill this out unless you plan on playing this weekend. There will be a new poll each week, so you can fill out a future one if/when you plan on participating.

After a several months hiatus, Game Nights are finally returning to Nintendo Everything. Although, perhaps we should change the phrase to “Game Afternoons”!

The event will officially kick off at 4 PM ET. Call of Duty: Black Ops II is the game of choice for Wii U, while the 3DS will be getting some Mario Kart 7 action. We advise you to show up early to exchange friend codes and whatnot.

An official Game Night post will go live 30-60 minutes before the event begins. You won’t need any sort of account to join, and you won’t be forced to game with us in order to chat with others – so feel free to say hello even if you don’t intend to play.

You can find more details about Game Nights here. See you all later today!

Let’s be honest: This is the game we’re waiting for for Game Night.

A couple of weeks ago we polled all of you to see which days and times worked best for getting together and playing video games every week, and today we’ve made our decision: Nintendo Everything Game Nights will be returning on Sunday, August 18th, at 4PM ET. Here’s all of the stuff you should know:

What: Game nights! We all get together (NintendoEverything staff, plus you guys) to play online games for a couple of hours every week. Just a small way of getting ourselves more involved with our games! On top of that, the event will be live-streamed for all to watch.

Where: On your Nintendo Wii U or Nintendo 3DS systems! Maybe Wii as well, depending on the week.

What games?: We’ll hold a poll every week to decide what games to play. If the same game keeps winning every week, we may force it out of rotation for a bit to give other games a chance as well.

How long? Probably just about two hours! Not a huge commitment, but enough to have some fun, chat with each other, and make good memories of blowing each other up with blue shells and stuff.

If you have any other questions, comment away! We’ll be here to answer.

Here we go again…

Hey look, the Book Club is back, and we’re playing recently released SNES classic EarthBound! You can purchase the game on the Wii U eShop for $10 or on the internet as a Super Nintendo cartridge for several hundred dollars.

Don’t know what the Book Club is? Well golly, let me explain! Once upon a time, the hosts of NintendoEverything’s weekly podcast decided that they wanted to play and discuss the same game with one another instead of all playing different games. Thus, the idea for the “Book Club” was born.

Every few weeks we all decide on a game to play and then play it over the course of a month or so, discussing the intricate details of the level design, gameplay, story, and anything else that may cross our path while we play. It’s meant to be a super detailed and intricate discussion akin to a real-life book club, and we would love if you played along! Check out the FAQ below for more details.

“How far do I have to get this week?”
Deadline for email submissions this week: Saturday, August 10th

I’ve never played Earthbound before, but from a bit of research I’ve done I think we’re going to try and make it to the location in the game called “Winters”. I’ve been told that’s roughly 5 hours into the game, which is a lot of time, so don’t feel bad if you don’t make it there. We may not make it either.

Also, please do not send us emails discussing portions of the game beyond where the book club is. We want to avoid spoilers and we don’t want to feel unable to answer your questions/respond to your comments, so if you’ve gotten ahead of everyone (which is fine!) do your best to only talk about the parts that we’ve all agreed upon. :]
