Nintendo Switch 2 Criware, Yesbis, Enlighten

We have news about a few additional tech-related announcements for Nintendo Switch 2, with Criware, Yesbis, and Enlighten middleware support planned for the console.

For Criware, the announcement notes that along with “developing new games that utilize the new hardware,” it “will also support audio and visual expression on the new console, including porting previously released games and multiplatform support for playing the same title across platforms such as PCs and smartphones, and contribute to the creation of new ways to play.”

Mario Kart World 120 FPS

Nintendo will be introducing games supporting 120 frames per second on Switch 2, and based on what we’re hearing, Mario Kart World is one such title that will make use of that.

Only a few whispers are out there at the moment. One of the main sites reporting on this is Engadget, following a hands-on session. The site writes: “Racing has never looked this smooth on any Nintendo console and this game might be the best first-party showcase of the Switch 2’s upgraded display and performance.”

With Nintendo Switch 2, some gamers were hoping that the system’s controllers would feature analog shoulder buttons. In the end though, Nintendo decided against including that functionality.

As part of a recent interview, we get to hear about what went into that decision. Kouichi Kawamoto, producer on Nintendo Switch 2 and technical director Tetsuya Sasaki weighed in here.

Zelda Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition no DLC

According to a statement from Nintendo, the company’s new Switch 2 Edition for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won’t include the game’s Expansion Pass DLC. That additional content will be sold separately as was the case on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.

The game itself costs $70 on its own. If you’re interested in the Expansion Pass, that’ll cost another $20. For players looking to grab everything there is to offer, the whole thing will set them back $90.

Following recent confusion, Nintendo has clarified that its Switch 2 Editions will contain everything on their cartridges, meaning no extra download will be required for the games.

We first heard from a UK customer support representative that these titles would have their content and features available as a download. However, a different representative later indicated otherwise. If a download had been required, physical Switch 2 Editions would essentially be Switch 1 games on the actual cartridge.

Zelda Wind Waker HD Nintendo Switch 2

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is still only on Wii U, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will never receive a Nintendo Switch 2 port.

Tim Gettys of Kinda Funny Games was recently able to get some hands on time with the new system during a press event. He also spoke with a representative and asked about the status of The Wind Waker HD. Wind Waker will be launching on Nintendo Switch 2, but that’s through Nintendo Switch Online with the new addition of GameCube classics.

Bit Boy Arcade 2

Today, Bplus announced plans to bring Bit Boy Arcade 2 to Nintendo Switch 2. A release window was not provided.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because the original Bit Boy Arcade previously had an appearance on Nintendo 3DS over a decade ago. Now on Nintendo Switch 2, it’s getting “a full-scale rebirth”.

Here’s what’s been shared thus far:

Nintendo’s Bill Trinen has labeled Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza as “genre-defining” and “franchise-defining” games.

Both were just announced as two of the company’s initial titles for Switch 2. With Mario Kart World, Nintendo is introducing various new features and mechanics, including the ability to free roam. As for Donkey Kong Bananza, it’s the first 3D Donkey Kong game since the N64 days and features huge amounts of environmental destruction. Both games “really take advantage of the uniqueness of the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.”

April 2: There’s an update on Hollow Knight: Silksong, with the game confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, the game launches in 2025.

This is our first real news about the game in quite some time. There’s unfortunately still not much else to report, but fans will be happy to hear that it’s trucking along – and we have a new, concrete launch window.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order statement

April 4: Nintendo has issued a statement about Switch 2 pre-orders in the United States, noting that they have been delayed. Reservations have not started since the company is evaluating “the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 were set to begin stateside on April 2. Now, however, that has been pushed back to an unspecified date, though the console remains on track for June 5. Meanwhile, pre-order have opened in some other regions – and many have already sold out.
