Ubisoft recently allowed the press to have hands-on time with Rayman Legends. Previews are just now starting to stream in. You can find details from one of these articles below, courtesy of Polygon.

– Updated lighting engine
– “Mansion of the Deep” level: mix of platforming and swimming sections
– This area features lighting that is used in underwater segments where glowing sentries search for Rayman and his pals
– Hide in the shadows behind platforms where light can’t shine through, avoiding detection

Skylanders has been a massive success in the video game space, but Activision has no plans to bring the IP to other entertainment areas. Activision’s VP of consumer marketing John Coyne told MCV that the company isn’t considering a TV show or movie at the moment.

He said:

“Kids, when they see the new toys, it is a new form of content for them. My own son, when he gets a new Giant, he naturally wants to go and play levels he has already played, but with a new character to see what it can do. In terms of a TV show or a movie, no there are not any plans. We believe the game is the entertainment. You talk to kids who are real fans of the franchise, and they will be able to tell you Gill Grunt’s powers, backstory, what his friends are and generally what’s going on in the world of Skylanders. The same sort of things that they are able to articulate around a TV show or a movie.”

VP of Activision’s business unit Joshua Taub also said: “The video game is the movie.”

Second-Screen Gaming Takes Center Stage

WHAT:

Nintendo is bringing its Wii U console to Downtown Disney in Anaheim, Calif., as part of a six-city tour to give people a chance to experience second-screen gaming for themselves. The tour is free and open to the public, and will include hands-on time with a wide selection of Wii U games, including Nintendo Land™, New Super Mario Bros.™U, LEGO®City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate from Capcom and Need for Speed Most Wanted U from Electronic Arts. (Playable games may vary by location.)

Visitors of the tour will be able to play all these Wii U games in a comfortable, living room setting surrounded by backdrops of some of Nintendo’s most beloved characters. Visitors can even pose for pictures with props from various Nintendo franchises and Tweet photos of the event with a unique hashtag to receive a special gift while supplies last.

Nintendo is working on a patch for New Super Mario Bros. U that will arrive right around the same time as New Super Luigi U. While not overly significant, it will allow for a couple of things.

Once applied, the update will allow players to purchase the New Super Luigi U DLC in-game – no trip to the eShop will be necessary. The patch will additionally add Wii U Pro Controller support, giving yet another control option.

I haven’t been publicizing this much, but yes: Nintendo Everything now has a YouTube channel. There isn’t much there at present, but it should be a whole lot more interesting once E3 2013 is done and over with.

In the meantime, I’ve started to produce some completely random and silly videos. Case and point: this Sonic Lost World – 15 seconds edition trailer. I cut away (most) of the CG, highlighted (most) of the interesting gameplay bits, and crammed it all together. If you ever wanted to give a friend a quick idea as to what Sonic Lost World is about, perhaps this would be the video to show… or maybe not.

Think this is too stupid? Let me know – you’ll never see it again! Hopefully I’ll start to get better at this video stuff as time passes.

In Japan, Nintendo will soon be bundling Nintendo Land with the Wii Remote.

Copies will come in one of two colors: blue or pink. Each is priced at 5,985 yen and will launch on July 13.

Nintendo has been hosting something called the “Wii U Summer Showcase”, where fans can get hands-on time with the system’s games and learn more about the hardware. The company took its act to Disneyland recently, and surprisingly, Zelda: Wind Waker HD was on display.

Although the game wasn’t playable, Nintendo did bring along a poster that showcases the first art from the GameCube remake. Take a look below:

The Wii U GamePad battery kind of stinks right now. To improve the situation, Nintendo intends to release an improved rechargeable battery in Japan.

An enhanced battery pack will increase the GamePad’s life from 3-5 hours to 5-8 hours. It’s a 2550mAh battery as opposed to the current 1500mAh battery.

The product will be available on July 25 for 3,150 yen.
