Nintendo has published the Iwata Asks: Platinum Games discussion. Executive producer Atsushi Inaba and president Tatsuya Minami talk about their gaming origins, positions in the industry, and direction of their company. You can read the entire interview here.
It’s something of a sad day for the gaming industry today– well, it’s been a sad few weeks anyhow– because THQ is finally, officially, irreversably gone. The U.S. Bankruptcy court approved the sale of many of the publisher’s properties to studios like Take Two, Ubisoft, and SEGA, and those that weren’t sold (Darksiders, we’re looking at you!) are being closed and added to THQ’s chapter 11 filing.
Platinum Games yesterday expressed some brief interest in purchasing the Darksiders brand “on the cheap”, but there’s no word on whether or not that will actually happen.
The 3DS and the Wii U are both out, but that isn’t stopping CIRCLE Entertainment– a ridiculously prolific support of WiiWare and DSiWare– from continuing on with plans to support “outdated” services well into the future on top of bringing new games to the eShops of 3DS and Wii U. Here’s the low down on everything the company plans to do in the coming months:
“Witch & Hero” (3DS eShop)
– 8-bit style, retro sound
– A hero and a witch go on an adventure
– Monster fighting, magic using
– 20 levels, two difficulty settings
– “Trial” and “Infinite” modes
Ah! Heaven (DSiWare)
– Ink painting visual style
– Platformer
– 24 stages
Achilles War (DSiWare)
– Tank battle game
– Set in the year 21XX
– Three tanks to choose from, break through enemy defenses
Goony (DSiWare)
– Top down view
– “Endless runner”
– Move left and right to avoid danger
– Exchange course layouts through QR codes
– Same-system multiplayer
When Smash Bros. 4 was announced, Satoru Iwata revealed that separate versions would be released for the Wii U and 3DS. Iwata confirmed the company’s intentions to show the games at this year’s E3 during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, but since then, director Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that both versions will be at the expo.
Sakurai wrote on Twitter:
“Wii U and 3DS versions — I would like to show you both. Other games have had visuals shown, but you still have to wait for Smash Bros. But we’ll be able to release something better.”
Along with the quotes above, Sakurai apologized for the long wait for the new Smash Bros.
