Today’s the 4th of July, so news is understandably slow… which is one reason why I’m posting this! There must be some Captain America fans out there, right?! I expect news to pick up tomorrow…

The truth of the matter is that Solatorobo is not going to sell like gangbusters. I’m going to do my part this fall by picking up this outstanding title and I hope you guys plan on purchasing it as well. But the chances of it doing extremely well aren’t exactly through the roof.

XSEED seems to be feeling the same way. Although they’re hopeful it’ll do well, they’re also being “realistic about the type of sales we may see”.

Ken Berry, Director of Publishing at XSEED, told Siliconera:

“We’re definitely worried and that’s one of the things we discussed with Namco. We had to make sure that their expectations are inline with the realities of the market now. I think both of us, meaning Xseed and Namco, are going into this project hopeful because its such a great title, but we’re also realistic about the type of sales we may see due to overall environment of the DS market right now.”

It’s also interesting to hear that Solatorob has been on XSEED’s radar for quite some time. Nintendo of Europe’s decision to publish the game was the final push the company needed to localize the game:

“We have been keeping an eye on this title for awhile. Thankfully, due to our good relationship with Namco Bandai, having done Fragile Dreams and Sky Crawlers with them before, we have an open channel of communication. We were weighing before whether to do this title or not and once we found out Nintendo of Europe was already localizing this into English it made our decision much easier. This is a title the developer, CyberConnect2, are super passionate about and they really wanted to see it released in the U.S. and they worked with us to make it happen.”

Tales of Graces F, the “enhanced” PS3 game that build off of the original version, is coming to North America. The Wii game is still staying in Japan. Why?

Tales Studio executive Makoto Yoshizumi explained:

“We wish to deliver the best and most complete experience for US and European fans, therefore we’re localizing Tales of Graces f. The game on the PS3 version is on a blu-ray disc. It would be next to impossible to condense all the game’s data on a Wii disc, so unfortunately, there will be no Wii release.”

I don’t know… that reasoning sounds iffy to me. I have no idea how much additional content is in the PS3 game, but does it really warrant the lack of localization for the Wii version? Plus, wouldn’t it be at all possible for Namco Bandai to release the game as is, without the PS3 extras?

Here’s what Griptonite Games said when asked about Wii U…

“It would be awesome to work on Wii U, if just to explore new ideas. That handheld screen could open up some great possibilities for a tabletop kind of experience with friends, among others. Nintendo has always been known for its innovation and the Wii U is no exception. We’re not only tempted but itching to develop for it!”

Shinobi Wii U? Ah wait… it’s way too premature to be talking about that. Although I have to admit I’m very curious as to how the 3DS game will turn out…
