The quotes below come directly from the Q&A session of Nintendo’s recent shareholder meeting…

Miyamoto on being busy with the 3DS…

“I get more ideas when I’m busy and with that meaning, this is an extremely good condition now.”

Miyamoto on Pikmin 3…

“Amongst the present promises, I have to finish Pikmin quickly, so production is progressing extremely well.”

Miyamoto on nintendogs + cats, when he said last year that he had a cat…

“For Nintendogs, which we announced at E3, cats will appear this time. Recently, I’ve been taking care of cats. I’m often asked about my interests, but the CEO has told me to if possible not speak about this as the theme of my next game would be known externally. About one year back, I started talking about cats, and right according to schedule, it was announced. We’ll soon be completing Nintendogs + Cats, which features cats.”

Miyamoto on his latest interests/new Nintendo character…

“Also, I’m still full of energy. Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of things — continuing to work hard at swimming, for instance, and also having exchanges with school kids, doing such things a serving on a neighborhood youth guidance committee. I think that next year I can probably deliver something new. I’m still active on the development scene, so please look forward to [my output]. It’s been nearly 10 years since I made the Pikmin character, so I feel this is the year where I must at long last make a new character. This is as far as I’ll answer today.”

Also worth noting, Miyamoto’s time with swimming recently as well as his position as a guidance counselor shouldn’t necessarily be taken too seriously. With the latest information we have from the Q&A session, these two interests shouldn’t be taken to heart like Miyamoto’s cat comments from last year.

This information comes from a recent shareholder meeting…

– Miyamoto wants to make Pikmin available quickly
– Miyamoto feels a new character needs to be made since it’s been 10 years since Pikmin
– 3DS might display play time like the Wii
– Nintendo not planning a theme park, wouldn’t be a traditional theme park even if Nintendo did so
– When asked about what he’s working on: Miyamoto has been very interested in swimming lately
– Miyamoto also a member of a youth guidance organization and spends time with school children
– Even with the 3DS, Nintendo is always thinking about making new things
– 3DS was at this event
– One demonstration showed flowing water and a wine glass in E3
– Manipulate camera view with d-pad or slide pad
– Mario figures, Mario Bros. sequence, Yoshi sequence, three Pikmin in the grass also shown
– Lastly, a clip of Twilight Princess Link slashing his sword was shown

Nintendo on Ocarina of Time 3DS, when asked if it’ll be like the demo of Twilight Princess Link swinging his sword/if the polygon visuals will be different…

“We can’t share details, but it does have expressive capabilities…This is because the capabilities are of course higher.”

Miyamoto on the new game character…

“It’s about time for a new game character. Perhaps this can be delivered next year.”

Miyamoto on his time with the 3DS, who said he’s busy with the system…

“The gameplay and game structure is much tighter and less ambiguous, and I believe this offers more rewards for the mainstream audience, while presenting new challenges for those more versed in videogame tropes. The visual impact of the new game can only be described as face-melting. We’re pushing the Wii to its limits to make everything look amazing.” – Nick Haggar, executive producer

I always thought that the first de Blob looked pretty nice graphically. The sequel looks like it’s continuing to produce impressive visuals, too.

This information comes from THQ Core games VP, Danny Bilson. In addition to the quote below, Bilson confirmed that the Saints Row 3DS title will be called “Drive By.”

“This isn’t a big risk like ChinaTown Wars for us. Also, Nintendo is really going to market to the core with that device.”

It’ll be interesting to see how the sales of mature games on the 3DS compare to the DS over time. Chinatown Wars didn’t exactly light up the charts when it was released, nor did other titles such as Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. Since Nintendo will be supporting the 3DS in terms of being more of a “core” system, one would expect games that fall under that category to perform better.

101 Shark Pets trailer

Yesterday we found out that Shin’en has plans to continue on with Jett Rocket through the title’s ending credits. I asked the company about the sequel, though unsurprisingly, there wasn’t much that they were willing to reveal yet. Addressing the question of which system Jett Rocket 2 will end up on, Shin’en said, “in which form or which plattform is to be determined.” So it sounds like the future of the series isn’t set in stone at the moment. Keep your fingers crossed that the next title ends up on Nintendo’s console!

By the way, I really hope you guys downloaded Jett Rocket, or plan to soon at least. It’s by far the most visually impressive WiiWare title I’ve seen thus far, and it’s quite fun as well! I’ve only managed to play through a bit of the game since I’ve been busy with a few things, but right now I’d recommend it to anyone looking to spend some points on the Wii Shop Channel.
