“Everything you can do online, you can do via splitscreen to include all competitive modes and the cooperative Team Invasion mode. We’ve spent a lot of time on a sweet splitscreen exclusive as well, namely the ability to lean over and punch your buddy in the arm if he looks at your screen. It’s something that you just can’t offer online, and one of the things that I really miss in multiplayer gaming. Online is a great experience to be sure, but there’s something special about having four buddies on the same couch playing in the same room. I have such fond memories of countless hours spent doing exactly that and I’m glad that we’re supporting it in Conduit 2. It [splitscreen] supports 4 players. And 2. And let’s not forget 3. For two players, you can set your screen to draw horizontally or vertically.” – Josh Olson, Senior Producer of Conduit 2

The original Conduit lacked local multiplayer completely, so it’s nice to see that the developers are concentrating on including a fully-functional experience this time around. Also, that exclusive splitscreen feature sounds really neat!

Suda51 on making another No More Heroes game with Travis or perhaps another character…

“Unfortunately, the story for Travis alone is completed in No More Heroes 2. I am very curious about his life after this; however, we have no plan for No More Heroes 3.”

Suda51 on why MotionPlus was dropped from No More Heroes 2…

“I chose the same controller system as NMH1, yet at the same time we wanted the system to be more evolved for NMH2, but not radically different.”

Suda51 on whether he’d like to make a MotionPlus game…

“If there is a chance in the future, I would like to try.”

“I realized that whether it’s story or movies, it’s not about whether we need them or don’t need them. What’s most important is that the game resonates. You notice things like how a certain enemy wasn’t scary, but the next time a similar one appears, its color is a little different and it spits out two rocks instead of one, so you think it must be tougher. You reason things out for yourself and put them to the test. This kind of interaction is interesting.” – Shigeru Miyamoto

“Unless you’re careful, there’s a tendency for games like Mario that can be played by children to gradually become childish. Those making the game tend to unconsciously make them that way. Taking how Mario’s line can be scripted as an example, they even propose to write, ‘Where’d my mommy go?’ When someone in their fifties like me hears their player-character speak childishly like that, it doesn’t quite sit right. After all, Mario wasn’t a game only for children in the first place. As I make a game, I try to keep in mind that guys in their fifties will play it, too.” – Shigeru Miyamoto

The above quotes come from the Super Mario Galaxy 2 Iwata Asks interview, which we covered on the site previous when it was posted in Japanese. However, you can still check out the full interview in English right here.
