Focus Home Interactive acquires Dotemu

Focus Home Interactive today announced that it has acquired Dotemu. The deal should be fully closed in September.

According to today’s announcement, “Dotemu will be able to give even greater ambition to its projects and give itself the means to broaden the range of services offered to studios, in order to guarantee the success of their productions on the retro label as well as on the publishing label The Arcade Crew.”

Dotemu has published a number of games on Switch, including Streets of Rage 4, Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, and Ys Origin. It is also involved with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and Windjammers 2.

Although Streets of Rage 4 already made it to retail, Merge Games is working on a new boxed version. The upcoming Anniversary Edition includes the main game and Mr. X Nightmare DLC. You can check out the boxart above.

The Streets of Rage 4 Anniversary Edition is planned for September 24. Pre-orders are open on Amazon and Best Buy. Those in the UK can reserve it here.

Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X Nightmare

The wait for Streets of Rage 4’s new Mr. X Nightmare DLC on Switch is finally over. It was originally planned for release on July 15, but the team ran into unexpected technical issues.

Cyrille Imbert, executive director at Dotemu, said of the delay:

Today, Streets of Rage 4 received a free update on Switch. The game is now at version 1.0.6.

Streets of Rage 4 has added a new difficulty mode, training more, and character adjustments. The full patch notes can be found below.

Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X Nightmare

Dotemu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games have announced that the new Mr. X Nightmare DLC for Streets of Rage 4 is now live. It can be purchased on Switch for $7.99. A free update is also available for all players.

Streets of Rage 4 Survival Mode

Streets of Rage 4 has received details regarding its new Survival Mode. It is “an inventive, immensely replayable challenge for Streets of Rage 4’s most versatile brawlers.”

Survival Mode has been shown off in a new trailer, posted below. It’s also confirmed that the Mr. X Nightmare DLC will launch on July 15. It features the playable debut of Estel Aguirre, fully realized playable versions of Max Thunder and Shiva, and original music from Tee Lopes (Sonic Mania, League of Legends). A free update goes live on the same day adding an in-depth training system, color palette options, a new Mania+ difficulty, and refinements and balancing changes addressing feedback from the community.
