EA is rumored to have been working on a new SimCity console game in recent years that sadly ended up as a cancelled project.
Liam Robertson from Unseen64 – a site known for digging up game information including games that never made it to market – writes on Twitter that the title would have landed on Wii U in addition to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The plug was apparently pulled back in October 2011.
A prototype was created, though EA did not move forward with the new SimCity console project. It would have released alongside the 2013 PC game.

Nintendo talks more about third-party Wii U support, Ubisoft and EA weigh in
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 23 Comments
Nintendo of America senior director of communications Charlie Scibetta has commented further on the situation surrounding third-parties and Wii U.
Scibetta told Ars Technica:
“We want the same thing that the third parties want, which is to grow the installed base. We’re confident that if we can do that by driving the installed base through first-party software, like Mario Kart 8, like Super Smash Bros., then the third-party developers will follow because then they’ll see there’s a large enough installed base that it’s worth their investment to bring their games to our platform. So it’s our job to grow that installed base to make it more attractive for them to come to our platform.”
“Sure, everybody would like to have games earlier, but the good thing about Nintendo is that product quality is really important to us, so we would never ship it early just to help our bottom line or our financials for the holiday season. It’s much more important for us to protect the brand, the goodwill we’ve built up with fans over the years.”
“The good thing about Nintendo is we’ve been dedicated to gaming for over 30 years now, and it’s not like we do anything else. It’s not like we’re going to go away from what we do and try something different. We’re in for the long haul in gaming.”
A couple of prominent publishers have weighed in regarding their support for Wii U as well.
First up, Ubisoft:
“We think that by releasing good games from fan favorite brands, like Mario Kart, Nintendo is taking steps to increase the Wii U’s adoption. We have games coming out for the Wii U this year, including Just Dance 2015 and Watch Dogs. For any other games we announced at E3, it’s too soon to say.”
An EA spokesperson also said the following:
“So far, we haven’t announced any new titles for the Wii U, but that doesn’t preclude us from doing so in the future.”

Like last year, the latest FIFA entry won’t be on Wii U. However, EA does intend to bring the game to both Wii and 3DS. It’ll likely be another small roster update kind of thing that we’ve recently seen.

Peter Moore apologizes for “unacceptable” April Fools’ tweets made on Frostbite account poking fun at Wii U
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Wii U | 46 Comments
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a big fan of April Fools. That’s one of the many reasons why we shy away from posting related content each year.
That said, one attempted April Fools’ joke did spiral a bit out of control earlier today, and developed into a more mainstream piece of news worth covering.
Essentially, a few tweets were posted on EA’s official Frostbite Engine Twitter account earlier today, which completed backfired. They are as follows:

EA CFO Blake Jorgensen says mobile gaming won’t kill consoles
Posted on 11 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in General Nintendo, News | 1 Comment

EA CFO Blake Jorgensen talked briefly about the role of smart-device (“mobile”) gaming in the culture of video gaming as a whole at the Stifel Tech, Internet, & Media Conference this past week, saying that he believes the two core experiences– mobile and console– to be fundamentally different, though they can compliment each other:

He also said that most of the experiences people desire on consoles can’t be replicated on mobile devices yet, like the 64-player online battles in Battlefield 4. “Mobile is a much more quick, short burst of gameplay.”

Peter Moore says “Nintendo’s a great partner”, not dead and never will be to EA
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 10 Comments
EA chief operating officer Peter Moore has responded directly to a recent report concerning Wii U.
Yesterday, CVG published a piece about the console, which included some comments from a supposed source within the company. The unnamed person said that “Nintendo was dead to us very quickly” – among other things.
Moore took to Twitter earlier today and responded to those remarks, writing:
Don’t trust "anonymous sources". Nintendo's a great partner. They never have been, and never will be, ‘dead’ to EA… @EA .
— Peter Moore (@petermooreEA) January 23, 2014
Moore also had a brief exchange with Rob Crossley, the writer of CVG’s Nintendo article:
@Rob_Crossley_ I know where I, as the COO, and my company stands on this relationship, despite the comments of your anonymous source @EA

EA source on Wii U: “Nintendo was dead to us very quickly”
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 67 Comments
When Nintendo unveiled Wii U during E3 2012, EA was one of the first publishers to pledge support for the console. Following the system’s actual launch, however, it didn’t take long for the relationship to sour.
EA put out a trio of games for Wii U’s launch – two sports titles and a port of a slightly old game in Mass Effect 3 – and then called it a day. You can attribute EA’s abandonment to a few things: poor sales of its own games, poor sales of the Wii U, and more.
One EA source speaking with CVG says that the Wii U also “became a kids IP platform and we don’t really make games for kids.” “Nintendo was dead to us very quickly,” the unnamed person said.
“Nintendo was dead to us very quickly. It became a kids IP platform and we don’t really make games for kids. That was pretty true across the other labels too. Even the Mass Effect title on Wii U, which was a solid effort, could never do big business, and EA like Activision is only focused on games that can be big franchises”.

Criterion co-founders depart from the studio, start new games company
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 1 Comment
Criterion Games vice president and creative director Alex Ward as well as studio director Fiona Sperry are gone from the company. EA confirmed to Polygon that the two Criterion co-founders “have decided to leave EA.”
A spokesperson said:
“Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry have decided to leave EA. We appreciate their many contributions through the years and wish them well in their future endeavours.
“The incredibly creative and talented team at Criterion are hard at work on a new project for next-gen consoles as new IP continues to be a major priority across EA. Matt Webster is leading development of the new game and the Criterion studio moving forward. Matt has been part of Criterion for years and has an exciting vision for this new game.”
Ward followed up on the news with a confirmation that he and Sperry have formed a new games company:
The news breaks. Along with @FionaSperry I have left @CriterionGames . Welcome to the REAL #tothefuture
