Shin’en talks about its history, FAST Racing Neo, supporting Nintendo platforms

Nintendo recently posted a video interview with Shin’en on its German YouTube page. Martin Sauter, the studio’s art director, took on some community questions. Sauter talked about the history of Shin’en, FAST Racing Neo in depth (making it easier for beginners, length of development, not trying to create an F-Zero spiritual successor), interest in the continued support of Nintendo platforms, and more.
The interview hasn’t been made available in other languages officially, but we did take the time to translate the whole thing in English. Head past the break to read it in full.

Shin’en on why it decided to pursue DLC with FAST Racing Neo
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 8 Comments
Shin’en launched FAST Racing Neo on the Wii U eShop last year. Several months later, it’s not only receiving a retail version, but also brand new downloadable content.
Martin Sauter from Shin’en explained to Nintendo World Report at Gamescom last week why the studio ended up pursuing DLC. He said:
“I said from the start we would love to support FAST Racing NEO in the future. We were discussing it in the office, and it was totally clear that when the game came out and the reception was good that we’d keep working on that. We started fixing issues, adding minimaps, adding stuff we found, it was pretty clear we wanted to go with DLC, make something because the demand was so heated. We were asked if there were new tracks coming, Nintendo approached us and asked “Is there interest in a physical release”.”
FAST Racing Neo’s DLC will encompass 8 new tracks, 10 new vehicles, and 18 new audio tracks.

Shin’en shares an update on FAST Racing Neo, sticking with Nintendo platforms
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Wii U eShop | 9 Comments
We’ve still yet to see a proper reveal of FAST Racing Neo. The game was announced last year, and only screenshots have trickled in since then.
Shin’en probably hasn’t had much to say since the team is very busy with development. Art director Martin Sauter told Nintendo Life that FAST Racing Neo is the studio’s “biggest project we’ve worked on for a long time.”
It still sounds like Neo won’t be released in the near future. Shin’en has “something running and the gameplay is fine”, though content still needs to be added.
Sauter said:
Definitely, it is the biggest project we’ve worked on for a long time. It’s just much more work to get that quality level of racing on consoles this generation has given us, so we have to look at; we can’t deliver at a level below that. The Wii U is a great machine, so we need to add so many things to hit that level and we’re pretty sure we can achieve that, but it takes time to build it up and put it together. We’re in a good way though, we have something running and the gameplay is fine, so we just need to add content.
The core of the game is basically done. It’s just content now, which is a lot of work. We’re small, it needs time, but I’m very optimistic that you’ll see something that Nintendo console fans can be happy with.

Shin’en said to be revealing another new Wii U game within next few weeks
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U eShop | 1 Comment
Shin’en is busy working on FAST Racing Neo for the Wii U eShop. Additionally, the studio has a second new project that will be announced in the very near future.
Art director Martin Sauter said on his website that the mysterious game “should get revealed in the next few weeks”. No further information was provided.
Sauter also left the following tease about FAST Racing Neo:
I can’t post too many information at the moment, but I can cconfirm, that this will not be a simple port or remake of the Wii version. It will be a standalone, full new product and we try it to create the most exciting eShop game in 2014.
Thanks to WALEED for the tip.
