Screenwriter Max Landis gave a Pokemon movie pitch last year, drew “huge Netflix offer”

We learned yesterday that Legendary Entertainment has obtained the rights to the Pokemon films, and will begin by producing a live-action Detective Pikachu film. Based on a new interview with screenwriter Max Landis, it sounds like that idea came straight from The Pokemon Company.
Landis, along with producer Roy Lee, pitched his idea for a different Pokemon film around a year ago. It was accepted, shown to studios (and led to a “huge Netflix offer”)… and then The Pokemon Company “pulled back”. Landis told Collider that they only wanted to sell one character, which was Detective Pikachu. He wasn’t interested, and that’s when everything fell apart.
You can hear about Landis’ pitch in the video below.

Producer says Tetris movie planned as a trilogy “purely because the story we conceived is so big”

Empire has a few extra tidbits about the new Tetris movie. It’ll be the first film in what is a planned trilogy, as was previously rumored.
Larry Kasanoff, who’s working to bring Tetris to theaters, spoke about the decision to create three movies with Empire. He stated that it was needed “purely because the story we conceived is so big. This isn’t us splitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It’s just a big story.”
Kasanoff also said:
“We want the story to be a surprise, but it’s a big science-fiction movie. I came up with the idea as I was thinking about Tetris and the theme of creating order out of chaos.
We’re not going to have blocks with feet running around the movie, but it’s great that people think so. It sets the bar rather low!
I guarantee you it’s not what you think. No-one has come remotely close to figuring out what we’re doing.”
Casting for the Tetris movie is “well underway”. Some shooting will take place in China.

SEGA has decided to go ahead with a movie adaptation of Shinobi, one of the company’s classic franchises. Stories International – SEGA’s film and television production studio – will create the film with producer Marc Platt.
Platt said in a statement today:
“We love the Shinobi games and believe that the world of ninjas has never been properly explored onscreen. We now have the opportunity to do just that. With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games and brings this fascinating world to life for moviegoing audiences.”
Many of the Shinobi games have previously launched as Virtual Console titles. The most recent entry, Shinobi 3D, came out for 3DS several years ago.

Wreck-It Ralph director still interested in making a sequel and featuring Mario
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 26 Comments
Wreck-It Ralph 2 hasn’t been officially announced, but the original film’s director has once again hinted that it will happen.
IGN asked Rich Moore if a sequel is still in the cards. In response, Moore laughed and said “maybe, maybe” before mouthing the word “yes.”
He also mentioned:
“I think the world of that first film is so big and the characters are very rich and I just think that they have more stories in them. The end of the movie felt like a launching point. It felt like it wouldn’t be straining to tell another story in that world as some films are. To me, I feel like I can definitely see where it would go, and I think the audience kind of felt that way too.”
As for including Mario in a potential sequel, Moore added: “In the first one we didn’t have Mario in that movie, so it would be great to have the great Mario in a second one if we did it.” Thanks to a “good relationship with Nintendo,” this might be possible.
