Nicalis

Just like with The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, Nicalis will be including some extras with the physical version of Cave Story+. The company teased “a few unannounced goodies” on Twitter, which should certainly include an instruction booklet based on an image included with the company’s message.

Back in the day, an instruction booklet may not have seemed like much. But in this era, physical games often don’t come with anything anymore other than the cartridge / disc in most cases.

Wondering when Redout will be heading to Switch? It may not be too long until we receive a final date. Developer 34BigThings wrote in a blog post that an announcement should be made “soon”.

Going into specifics as to why it’s taken so long, 34BigThings explained that the initial PC release required a great amount of resources. This resulted in “less allocated time, more assets, regression bugs, more optimisation work” on consoles. In the end, “PC gamers got more stuff early, console gamers will get a polished game with the same content.”

34BigThings wrote:

Headup Games is teaming up with Nicalis to bring The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ to Europe and Australia, the company announced today. A release is planned for Q2 2017. Pricing will be set at €39.99.

It was also suggested that Headup and Nicalis will be working together again in the future. That may mean games like Cave Story+ and Redout will reach PAL regions as well.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ will have a second run, Nicalis announced on Twitter today. New copies of the game will come with an updated boxart, pictured above.

Nicalis wrote on Twitter a short while ago:

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ is currently only available in North America. However, Nicalis has teased news for Europe at the beginning of next week.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ made it to Switch last month, though only in North America. Nicalis hasn’t had any news for Europe, but an update could be coming on Monday.

Nicalis wrote a message on Twitter last night that seems to be pointing in the direction of an announcement regarding The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ for PAL territories. It’s as follows:

I can’t really see what this could be other than The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ for Europe. We’ll keep track of the situation and will provide any updates as soon as we have them.

Earlier this week, Nicalis came forward with the first official news about Cave Story+, which is slated for Switch. The company followed up today with additional details.

Nicalis says Cave Story+ on Switch will be “the definitive version with new challenges, gameplay options and enhancements.” The game will also have “more levels and additional subtle graphic improvements, future free content updates as well as a few bonuses that are yet to be revealed.”

As for the game itself, here’s an overview:

“With its striking blend of platforming action, shooting and exploration, Cave Story+ offers plenty of “twitch” for the Switch. But storytelling is a huge contributing factor to its international success. Through a series of brief and often emotional conversations with various characters, players gradually learn the tragic history of the game’s cast as well as its amnesiac adventurer, whose athletic ability and weapon skills are much more advanced than his appearance would suggest.”

Update (4/4): Now up for pre-order on GameStop.

Original (4/3): A couple of months ago, Nicalis’ Tyrone Rodriguez shared an image of Switch’s Home Menu. It depicted the icons of a few games: The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, 1001 Spikes, Hydra, and Cave Story. We pretty much knew that last game was happening, but now it’s been made official.

Cave Story is coming to Switch as Cave Story+. Like The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, it will have a physical release.

Along with upgraded HD graphics, the game will have seven play modes such as Wind Fortress and Boss Rush, more than twenty boss battles, fifteen levels, ten unique weapons, and four unique endings.

Switch is getting Cave Story+ on June 20. Pricing is set at $29.99.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ has a very neat physical release, though some fans might be more inclined to pick up the game physically. That especially goes for our friends in Europe where it’s not yet available. In any case, if you choose to purchase The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ from the eShop, you’ll need 610MB of free space.

Polygon recently streamed some gameplay from the Switch version of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ through Facebook, and the video is now available to watch. You can check it out below.

Thanks to IGN, we have a new look at The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ on Switch with a few minutes of multiplayer footage. Check out the video below.
