It’s unclear how it happened (other than what was probably just a happy circumstance), but Niantic CEO John Hanke ended up on a flight with Pokemon GO player Doctor PoGo. The two ended up sitting next to each other and Hanke dished on the mobile game’s future.

Here’s a roundup of information shared about what’s planned for Pokemon GO:

Pokemon GO - Field Research

Field Research missions have been one of the biggest additions to Pokemon GO, especially this year. Niantic will be looking to keep things fresh with a new set of tasks going live next week.

On May 1 at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET, players will be able to partake in a new round of Field Research missions. These will focus on Flying- and Electric-type Pokemon, including skill-based tasks that will challenge your abilities as a Trainer.

Pokemon GO

During a live stream on Twitch yesterday, a Pokemon GO fan who goes by the name Chrales showed off a ton of shiny Pokemon coming to Pokemon GO. Everything was discovered through a massive datamine.

Twitter user LeekDuck archived what was shown during the stream. Here’s a look at what’s on the way:

These shiny Pokemon aren’t live just yet. However, since they’re already present in the game’s files, they could technically show up at any point.

In the past, the primary way of encountering Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon GO has been through Raid Battles. Yet with the new daily quests added to the game, there’s an entirely new way.

Pokemon GO rewards players with items each day they complete research challenges. After seven days, the reward will be even bigger. Professor Willow will appear with a box of goods such as Stardust and Poke Balls. Then after unwrapping the box, you’ll notice that a battle starts.

Two new Legendary Pokemon are joining Pokemon GO. Starting today, players can begin encountering the Dragon- and Psychic-type Pokemon Latias and Latios. They’ll be around until June 5.

In Europe and Asia, Latias will show up in Raid Battles. Latios will appear in North America, South America, and Africa. On May 8, they’ll switch locations.

One of Pokemon GO’s biggest content updates is now up and running. The Field Research and Special Research features, leading to the discovery of Mew, can now be taken on. If you’re curious as to what this is about, visit our original post here.

Niantic also posted an in-depth article this week going over how it created the research functionality. You can find that in full below.
