Sonic x Shadow Generations footage

Sonic x Shadow Generations is one of the more notable games set to appear on Switch later this year, and the first footage has now come through. It’s on display at a media event for Summer Game Fest, and thanks to VGC, we’re able to see gameplay.

Fans can see the remastered version of Green Hill Zone here. Additionally, we have a look at Space Colony Ark, a stage for Shadow, and a Biolizard boss fight.

Sonic x Shadow Generations hub world Chao

SEGA has shared another round of details for Sonic x Shadow Generations, revealing that the game has a new hub world, hidden Chao to rescue in every level, and more.

As a reminder, the game includes the original title plus a brand new Shadow the Hedgehog campaign. Here’s what to expect:

Sonic x Shadow Generations release date

June 6: While we’re still waiting on the official announcement from SEGA, the release date for Sonic x Shadow Generations appears to be imminent. New leaks point to the game launching on October 25, 2024. On the record, it’s due out on Switch later in 2024.

Well-known leaker billbil-kun put out the claim on social media. That was followed up with another leak from MysteryLupin, who not only posted the boxart – see above – but also a new set of screenshots. The packaging image seems to reveal that copies include Gerald Robotnik’s journal covering Shadow’s creation and a Sonic Adventure legacy skin.

Sonic x Shadow Generations

More than a decade after its original release, Sonic Generations is making a comeback with a remaster known as Sonic x Shadow Generations. It will be available on Switch this fall.

This is actually going beyond a simple remaster. A brand new campaign will be added focusing on Shadow the Hedgehog while the main game features “upgraded visuals and new bonus content.”

Here’s the official overview:

Sonic Generations was one of the few recent entries in SEGA’s long-running series that never made it to Wii. However, it seems there were initially plans to bring the game to both Nintendo’s console as well as the DS.

In a new report, Unseen 64 writes:

The next update on Sonic Anniversary came from Madrid’s Gamefest 2010, courtesy of Sonic news site, Sonic Paradise. As corroborated by Sonic Reikai, a SEGA representative reportedly let slip an abundance of information on the game to one of their reporters. Without the authorisation of SEGA, the rep. disclosed that it was to be a combination of 2D and 3D gameplay, and would be developed for Nintendo Wii, PSP, PS3 and DS. When asked whether or not it was planned to come to Xbox 360, the employee indicated that talks were still ongoing.

Eventually, the game was officially announced as Sonic Generations on April 18, 2011 for Xbox 360 and PS3. It is uncertain how far the Wii, PSP and DS versions progressed, but our sources suggest that they were cancelled not long into development.
