Splatoon 2

Missed today’s Splatoon 2 Direct? If so, that’s not a problem, as we now have the presentation in full below.

Splatfests are back in Splatoon 2, and the first one will technically be hosted before the game even launches. On July 15, Switch owners can participate in the Splatfest World Premiere demo event. The first Splatfest asks fans if they prefer cake or ice cream.

The next Nintendo Direct will air tomorrow. Nintendo is holding a special presentation dedicated to all things for its next Switch game, Splatoon 2. During the presentation, fans can look forward to news about “some of the new features, weapons and styles” in the game.

As for how long the Direct will be, Niconico may have some insight. It’s showing as a 25-minute presentation on the video site’s schedule. Some have questioned how accurate Niconico is with these timetables, though they were actually right on the money with the Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 event last month. But… we’ll see.

The Splatoon 2 Direct will air on Thursday at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM in the UK / 4 PM in Europe.

Two months ago, we reported that Splatoon 2 will have a file size of 5.5 GB, based off of a listing on Amazon Japan. Today, the Splatoon 2 page on the European Switch eShop was updated, and it now displays a file size of 3.1 GB. It’s safe to assume that this size is probably more accurate than the one on Amazon. It’s unlikely that language differences account for that much of a difference so Nintendo probably managed to compress the game’s files quite a lot in the last two months.

Nintendo is ramping up its promotional efforts for Splatoon 2 with the Switch game just a few weeks away. Have a look at the official North American commercial below.

An important piece of Splatoon 2 news was burried in Glixel’s new interview with producer Hisashi Nogami and programming director Shintaro Sato. At one point, Sato spoke about a new mode in the game known as “League Battle”.

Here’s what Sato shared:

“There’s also a new mode in Splatoon 2 called League Battle. This will be a mode that players can play either in groups of two or four, and it will present you with a two-hour period in which your group competes with other groups to see how many points you can earn. Because the results of that League Battle play will be displayed in a ranking at the end of every two-hour period, we can give players goals to strive for, and hope to encourage them to keep competing and pushing.”
