Super Mario Maker

Update (6/21): Bumped to the top. We now have a pretty good idea as to why there are two different colored Isabelle sprites. It seems like Isabelle’s amiibo card will unlock the one on the left, while the figure unlocks the one on the right.

Nintendo has shown Isabelle running in Super Mario Maker through an amiibo costume, which is pictured on the left. The image on the right, however, shows a different colored costume from the unlock screen. It’s possible – although certainly not confirmed – that we could be seeing costumes in more than one color.

It’s not often that we see titles from Nintendo that put the creation tools in players’ hands. So why did Shigeru Miyamoto decide to make Super Mario Maker?

During a recent press event, Miyamoto said: “I still just love making games, it’s my favorite thing.” In developing Super Mario Maker, he wanted “to let other people enjoy the experience of making games themselves.”

Super Mario Maker launches for Wii U on September 11.

Since Super Mario Maker’s reveal at last year’s E3, fans have been wondering if the creation title would retain the physics of the different Mario games. We now appear to have the answer to that question.

Based on reports from those who played Super Mario Maker at E3 – including Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstmann – it does in fact look like it keeps the physics of the different styles. Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. should play as you would expect.
