Nintendo is teaming up with Aardman Animation to bring a costume based on Shaun the Sheep to Super Mario Maker. The course will go live on June 3rd, and you can watch a preview below.

Polygon has put up the latest video in its “Devs Make Mario” series. In today’s feature, Nidhogg and Flywrench creator Mark Essen makes a level in the game. View it below.

Two new costumes are now available in Super Mario Maker. After finishing the new Event Course, players can unlock outfits based on Hello Kitty and My Melody.

Here’s an overview of the course:

Sanrio characters Kitty and Melody find themselves in the world of Super Mario! At first it seems like a fun place, with cute blocks shaped like apples and flowers. But they’d better be careful, because there’s danger up ahead! Won’t you help them find their way safely to the goal?

And some footage:

Note that you need to complete the level twice in order to obtain both costumes.

Super Mario Maker is set to add two new costumes this week. This time around, Nintendo is bringing Hello Kitty and My Melody to the game.

Here’s a video showing both:

Hello Kitty and My Melody will be available in Japan on Friday. Based on that, the release timing for other territories should be as follows:

– 6 PM PT (Thursday)
– 9 PM ET (Thursday)
– 2 AM in the UK (Friday)
– 3 AM in Europe (Friday)

You’ll be able to nab Hello Kitty and My Melody after completing a new Event Course.

This may fall into spoiler territory for some, so head past the break for the full post.

A new version of Super Mario Maker has gone live. Version 1.43 is available for download now.

Here are the patch notes from Nintendo:

  • The Star Ranking list in Course World has been changed to display courses that have received the most stars relative to the number of people who have played them.
    • Previously, when searching for courses in the Star Ranking list, results could be set to either “Weekly” or “All-Time” but will now be limited to “All-Time.”
  • “Super Expert” difficulty has been added to the difficulty filters when searching for courses.
  • This update (ver1.43) must be downloaded and applied in order to use the Internet features of Super Mario Maker.

Today’s Super Mario Maker update is a 324MB download.

A new user-made Super Mario Maker level has been making the rounds as of late. It’s very impressive (at least in my eyes), so I felt it was worth sharing. One particular section has players fleeing from a creature known as “Bowzilla”, which is arguably the highlight of the course.

Here’s a look at “Super Mario Vs Mecha Bowzilla” by KiavikView:

If you want to play the course for yourself, you can find it on the Super Mario Maker Bookmark site here.

Nintendo posted a couple of new Super Mario Maker stats over on its North American Twitter page.

We now know that over 7.2 million user-created courses have been made. Collectively, they’ve been played over 600 million times.

Nintendo also reconfirmed that Super Mario Maker has sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide. That tidbit was revealed through the company’s latest financial report.
