Super Mario RPG launch trailer

Tying in with the launch of Super Mario RPG’s Switch remake, we have a launch trailer. It’s shorter than most of Nintendo’s usual videos, but should give fans a quick look at the game.

To recap, here’s what you can expect from Super Mario RPG:

Super Mario RPG frame rate resolution

New details are available about the technical side of the Super Mario RPG Switch remake, including frame rate and resolution. This comes from a new video just shared by Digital Foundry today.

Here’s the full rundown:

Super Mario RPG reviews

Super Mario RPG is just about to get a big remake on Switch, and Nintendo has now lifted the official embargo on reviews. It’s the company’s last big release of 2023.

Super Mario RPG originally came out on the SNES, and the development team decided to fully upgrade the visuals. There are also some new elements this time around such as cinematics, the three-character Triple Move, powered-up bosses that can be challenged after beating the game, an updated soundtrack, and more.

Super Mario RPG how long to beat

With the new remake of Super Mario RPG on the horizon, we’ve written an estimate on the game’s length and how long the main story will take to beat.

The original version is (somehow) over 25 years old. Hence its name, it was also the first RPG in the entire Mario franchise. That means it’s also a little bit longer than your average Mario game. It’s now receiving a full remake for Switch, and it’s due out on November 17. Given Super Mario RPG’s trailers, screenshots, and early marketing materials, the main story is largely unchanged compared to the original version on the SNES.

Super Mario RPG ROM leak

A week before launch, Super Mario RPG has seen its ROM leak online. This follows a number of other high-profile titles from Nintendo that met a similar fate.

One little tidbit from the leak reveals that the internal codename for the game is “Stella”. Otherwise we have reconfirmation that it was built with the Unity engine. We reported on that earlier today, along with the news that ArtePiazza of Dragon Quest fame appears to be the primary developer. You can read more about that here.

Super Mario RPG developer Unity

Just a few days before launch, new information has surfaced for Super Mario RPG, including the developer behind the project and the engine that was used.

Square Enix was the developer for original game on the SNES. For the remake on Switch though, it’s been a bit of a question mark as to who’s actually behind the project. Now that pre-loading has started, we have a bit of insight.

Original (11/1): Nintendo has just come out with a new overview trailer for Super Mario RPG showing various aspects of the remake. As usual, it’s so far only been published in Japanese, but the English counterpart is likely to follow soon – stay tuned for that.

Here’s some information about the game:

Tetris 99 Super Mario RPG

Tetris 99 has revealed its 36th Maximus Cup centering around Super Mario RPG. This will be held towards the end of the week leading into early next week.

During the event, players will have an opportunity to earn a theme based on the Super Mario RPG Switch remake. Simply play the online mode and earn points based on your placement in each match. After reaching 100 event points, the theme will be unlocked. It comes with background art, music, and Tetrimino designs inspired by Super Mario RPG.

Super Mario RPG pre-order bonus

With Super Mario RPG finally set to return with a Switch remake this year, we’ve started up a guide to round up every notable pre-order bonus for the game ahead of the holiday season.

Super Mario RPG has only ever appeared on the Virtual Console and SNES Slassic, but now Nintendo is giving the game a full overhaul. Obviously, the graphics have been reworked (and there are special cinematics as well). Additionally, the title’s original composer is back on board to update the music.

As for the actual game, players will be going on a quest to save Star Road and stop the troublemaking Smithy Gang. Mario, Bowser, and Peach are in for the ride as well as fan-favorite Geno and Mallo.

Super Mario RPG Easy Mode SNES music

Nintendo has revealed even more details about what’s new in the Switch remake of Super Mario RPG, including an Easy Mode and SNES music option. This comes from the newly-opened Japanese website.

For those who are more interested in the story and aren’t as interested in battles (or a tough experience), they’ll be able to select Easy Mode – rather than the Normal Mode. You can switch between the two modes at any time.
