Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Nintendo has announced a new wave of Mii Fighter costumes joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Veronica (Swordfighter), Erdrick (Swordfighter), Martial Artist (Brawler), and Slime (Hat) will all be sold as DLC. Each one represents the Dragon Quest series.

The new Mii Fighter costumes launch alongside Hero today. Pricing is set at $0.75 each.

As promised, Nintendo just issued a new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate video presentation with director Masahiro Sakurai featuring new Hero. We’ve now received official confirmation that the DLC character will be launching today, July 30.

Nintendo has gone live with its brand new video presentation for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In the video below, you can watch director Masahiro Sakurai deliver the latest news about DLC character Hero and more.

The next big update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is coming very soon, and so is the next DLC character, Hero from Dragon Quest. Masahiro Sakurai will be showing off the Hero in a special video tomorrow. Many fans have speculated that version 4.0.0 and along with that the release of the Hero, would be available soon after that video presentation. It seems like that’ll be the case, as Nintendo of Europe might have accidentally revealed the release date of 4.0.0. In a tweet this morning, they said that version 4.0.0 would be released on July 31, this Wednesday. The tweet has since been deleted and replaced with one that omits the date, but Twitter user @Chocobalt managed to take a screenshot of the original:

While this isn’t 100% confirmed yet, it seems very likely that version 4.0.0 will be available on the 31st.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s next update is coming soon. Version 4.0.0 goes live within the next week, Nintendo announced as part of an in-game notice. The company also just revealed a few minutes ago that it will host a presentation on July 30 to share more on the Hero DLC and the character’s release date.

Once the update is installed, players may not be able to view replays saved prior to this version. You can save replays ahead of time by visiting the Vault, then Replays, Replay Data, and finally Convert to Video.

In his previous Famitsu column, Super Smash Bros. director delved into the creation of the series’ character reveal trailers when it comes to CG. But as we know, these videos also include gameplay segments. Sakurai explained how those sections are made in his latest column, which is much more involved that one would initially think.

Here’s our full translation of the column:

Hero is the next DLC character joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Aside from a vague summer release window, Nintendo hasn’t said when he’ll be joining the game. Of course, that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill, which has ranged from a reveal early next week, to the end of Evo 2019, to possibly the start of August. At this point, no one really knows.

One interesting development is that a series of new Dragon Quest spirits have now been spotted on Nintendo’s servers. When Hero is added, he’ll be joined by these new spirits.

Here’s a look at what’s been found as of now:

The very first entry in the Mother (EarthBound) series debuted in Japan on July 27, 1989. To celebrate the 30th anniversary, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will hold a special Spirit Board event.

Spirits from the series will appear while it’s active. If you defeat them, you can earn more gold than usual.

The new Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirit Board event kicks off on July 26, lasting for three days.
