Yooka-Layee’s initial launch took place last month. Of course, we’re still waiting on the Switch version – which Playtonic is still working on.

Aside from the Switch edition, Playtonic is also tinkering away on improving the overall Yooka-Laylee experience. The team promises to “add significant improvements and introduce some of the most requested features,” such as “the optional ability to skip dialogue faster, bypass cutscenes or reduce those pesky gibberish voices” along with an improved camera. Presumably this will all be included when Yooka-Laylee is ready on Switch.

Playtonic wrote on its blog:

Mouldy Toof Studios and Team17 pulled back the curtain on a new prison in The Escapists 2. The two sides are introducing Rattlesnake Springs, located in the Old West.

“Sneak around the sheriffs, make friends with the compound’s horses and explore the dark mine below the prison in the wildest lockup yet,” Team17 says about the prison. Players can team up with three friends to break out of Rattlesnake Springs with online or local play later this year.

Here’s a new trailer for The Escapists 2:

It’ll take some time until Yooka-Laylee is ready on Switch, but Playtonic and Team17 are nonetheless having the initial launch today. The final video for the game is as follows:

Playtonic is comprised of many former staffers from Rare. It makes sense then that for the team’s debut title, an Easter egg was included from one of their earlier works.

GameXplain came across one little secret referencing Conker’s Bad Fur Day, a platformer from the N64 era. We won’t reveal it here, but it amounts to a book’s name being the same as a line spoken by Conker. GameXplain has the full rundown below.

Yesterday, Playtonic and Yooka-Laylee composer Grant Kirkhope teased a new tune for the game that would be taking inspiration from Donkey Kong 64’s DK Rap. That’s now been published online.

Kirkhope and Playtonic have created a new piece of music in the style of DK Rap, aptly titled the Yooka-Laylee Rap. Watch the video and listen to the song below.

If you’ve played Donkey Kong 64, chances are you’re familiar with the DK Rap. Even those who have heard about the game in passing may be aware of the famous song, as it’s only gained in popularity over the years.

Grant Kirkhope, the creator of the DK Rap, is one of the composers working on Playtonic’s Yooka-Laylee. The 3D platformer is taking inspiration from many N64 games such as Banjo-Kazooie. The influences don’t stop there though, as it appears Kirkhope is preparing a new take on the DK Rap as a tie-in for Yooka-Laylee.

Playtonic put out the following video on YouTube earlier today:
