Shigeru Miyamoto has been asked about the Wii’s successor over the past few days due to a ton of speculation about Project Cafe. Yesterday, he said that “it’s a matter of when we announce it” and that we should “be patient.”

Miyamoto was once again asked if there is any truth to the recent Wii 2 rumors in an interview with Dutch website Sp!ts. While he didn’t reveal anything specifically, Miyamoto did indicate that it is a logical step for Nintendo to move on to HD since a large percentage of households have an HD television, and echoed previous statements by the company that the console will offer something totally different. “I may not tell you, but to us it is of course a logical step to doing something with HD. The number of households with a HD television is now big enough to make an HD game console. And of course we are always busy anyway with the development of new consoles. We focus not only on HD and the next system will feature something totally different than usual.”

Shigeru Miyamoto on Nintendo’s lack of software output recently…

“I think 3DS is a unique entertainment tool – everyone can understand how it works. One of our next aims is: how do you convey this message? Because one has to play and experience [it]. We spent a lot of time developing 3DS, for games for the future, so from now on I think we’ll focus more on gaming and we are releasing lots of games this year.”

Miyamoto on his hopes for the eShop…

“Personally speaking, because it’s [for] 3DS, it’ll be 3DS-specific, unique and immediately suitable for 3DS. With downloadable games via eShop we will start to create meaningful and high-value games for 3DS specifically.”

Miyamoto explaining that he is open to Nintendo’s established franchises appearing on the eShop…

“I think if it’s meaningful for 3DS. For me it’s important that anyone can play, and that it’s easy and comfortable for anyone – it’s not forcing a game into the hardware itself.”

Miyamoto on the one game he would most like to see remade for 3DS…

“I think A Link To The Past. Do you remember Xevious? It’s two-layered and I really wanted to create that at the time. So to see Link To The Past in two layers would be quite attractive for me.”

Other than the information above, Miyamoto also said that fans can look forward to more “remakes of games on 3DS as well”. That seems to imply that Ocarina of Time 3D and Star Fox 64 3D won’t be the only classic titles that Nintendo will bring over to the 3DS.

Some folks aren’t too happy with the idea that Capcom will essentially be changing fans a few dollars to download a demo of Mega Man Legends 3. If you want to see the full game down the line, though, then you may want to show your support by purchasing Prototype Version. While director Masakazu Eguchi didn’t say anything about sales explicitly, he did indicate that the “heat and excitement surrounding this downloadable title would determine whether or not the full game could be greenlit.” I’m sure Capcom would be inclined to finish the full game if they see encouraging sales for Prototype Version.

“Furthermore, the heat and excitement surrounding this downloadable title would determine whether or not the full game could be greenlit. If hype is strong, the full title will be a go. If not, it’s a no-go. I don’t even want to think about that outcome!”

Epic Mickey made a splash onto the gaming scene with an initial round of leaked concept art, and these latest images are just as impressive. You could argue that the title never lived up to the hype, but I think it was a respectable start. Junction Point Studios didn’t have a ton of video game development experience, though, so I’d say it was a good start. Epic Mickey seemed to have performed quite well on the market, so perhaps we’ll see a sequel in the future.
