“Gamestop Kids” stores begin opening today
Posted on 12 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Well, I’m pretty surprised I hadn’t heard about this before today! Apparently Gamestop is debuting a new kind of store called “Gamestop KIDS” that will be focused on selling age-appropriate content to people who want to either buy games for their children or to children who want to buy games for themselves. All of the games will be rated “E” (“E 10+” is probably a given as well), and there will be a heavy emphasis on including various bits of swag (plushies, foam toys, accessories, etc) alongside the games.
So it will be like a toy store mixed with a Gamestop, and yes, the logo is as 90s as you’d imagine:
G4 ending Attack of the Show and X-Play in December
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Attack of the Show and X-Play are on their way out of G4TV. The network will be phasing out both shows by the end of December.
An official statement from G4 is posted below.
G4’s two longest-running and defining series, Attack of the Show! and X-Play, will be ending their run at the end of 2012. Both shows will include original episodes through the end of the year, and will look back at theirmost memorable moments as we lead up to their final episodes. A rotating lineup of guest co-hosts including John Barrowman, Michael Ian Black, Josh Myers, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel and Horatio Sanz will join AOTS hosts Candace Bailey and Sara Underwood, and X-Play hosts Morgan Webb and Blair Herter as part of the farewell shows.
With well over a thousand episodes each, Attack of the Show! and X-Play have defined gamer culture for a generation, serving as the launch pad for prominent personalities including Kevin Pereira, Olivia Munn, Chris Hardwick and Adam Sessler. Attack of the Show! debuted March 28, 2005 and from the start was the ultimate guide to everything cool and new in the world of technology, web culture, gaming and pop culture. X-Play made its debut almost two years earlier, on April 28, 2003 (on G4’s previous incarnation: TechTV), and immediately became the go-to destination for young men seeking the latest video game news, honest reviews, hands-on demos and exclusive video game trailers and footage. The year-end celebration will take you back through highlights of these landmark shows’ history, including its exclusive live-from-the-floor coverage of San Diego Comic-Con and E3.
Both long-running shows helped define, as well as expand, the pop culture and gaming TV experience for a generation. We hope you’ve had as much fun watching them as we have had making them, and sincerely hope you join us in bidding a fond farewell to Attack of the Show and X-Play’s as we look back over the next two months and head towards each series’ finale.

Sixteen years after its original release, Super Mario 64 has finally received co-op. One modder has added in the feature which makes simultaneous two-player support possible.
If you’d like to experience co-op, you’ll need a PC… and an emulator.
We’ve attached a video above showing off some sample gameplay.
Video: Miyamoto arrives in Spain, will accept Prince of Asturias Award tomorrow

You may remember that Shigeru Miyamoto was chosen as Spain’s recipient of the Prince of Asturias Award. Following the announcement several months ago, Miyamoto has finally arrived in the country and will be accepting tomorrow.
Some of Miyamoto’s first moments prior to tomorrow’s event were captured on film. The video above is more amusing that you would think. Miyamoto dances around to some music a bit, takes part in a few photo ops, and signs some autographs.
Thanks to Jose for the tip.

The video above was shown following the end of today’s Nintendo Direct. I imagine that most of you won’t have any ideas as to what’s being said, but Iwata’s laughs make it worth sharing the footage.

Nintendo sends out another, lengthier statement about Foxconn sitaution
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Wii U | 0 comments
Last week, Nintendo provided a statement regarding Foxconn’s admission of child employment. The electronics maker, which is producing Wii U units, had some interns working at one of its plants who were less than 16 years-old.
Nintendo’s new statement reads:
“Nintendo was concerned to learn that underage individuals had been working at a Foxconn facility in China where components for some Nintendo products are produced. Nintendo investigated the incident and determined that this was a violation of the Nintendo Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Procurement Guidelines that all Nintendo production partners are required to follow, based on relevant laws, international standards and guidelines.
Foxconn has taken full responsibility for this incident and has moved quickly to ensure that all affected individuals no longer work at Foxconn. In fact, Foxconn’s own policies prohibit the employment of underage individuals and the company has pledged to Nintendo via direct communications to improve its process of enforcing this policy to avoid any similar issues in the future.
As one of many companies that work with Foxconn to enhance CSR along the whole supply chain, we take this issue very seriously. As part of our ongoing procurement process, Nintendo staff will continue to carry out on-site inspections of our production partners in order to understand the actual on-site conditions and to promote socially responsible procurement.

Best Buy is holding a “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” sale which carries on through Saturday. Soon it’ll be Target’s turn.
The retailer is planning its own B2G1 sale starting on Saturday. The specifics haven’t been reported yet, but they should be similar to Best Buy’s guidelines. That means the offer should be valid on almost any system for games $60 or less.
If we receive further details, we’ll be sure to share them with you.
Nintendo release schedule – Brain Age 3DS due next year in US/EU, Wii U games listed
Posted on 12 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, General Nintendo, News, Wii U | 0 comments
Nintendo has provided an updated release schedule as part of its financial materials.
There aren’t a whole lot of interesting listings, but it looks like Brain Age: Concentration Training has been pushed back in North America to an unspecified time frame between January and March 2013. It’s been given a vague 2013 “date” in Europe.
Wii U games are also listed for the first time. Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros., and Monolith Soft’s next game are all “TBA”, though it’s nice seeing them on there in any case!
