General Nintendo

Update: Added in an English version.

Included in Nintendo’s new Zelda 25th anniversary website is a video about Flipnote Studio and a “lesson” about how to draw Link in the free DSiWare application. Actually, it shows how to draw two versions of the character – Wind Waker/Spirit Tracks Link and Adult Link from Ocarina of Time.

If you watch closely, perhaps you’ll be able to draw Link yourself! Anyone want to give it a shot on Flipnote Studio or even Game Notes on the 3DS?

The drawings themselves are fairly straightforward, though the information “points” are in Japanese. If an English version pops up, we’ll be sure to add it here.

Zelda Developers to Judge Top Consumer-Created Flipnote Studio Animations

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The 25th anniversary celebration of The Legend of Zelda™ continues with the launch of a new website and a creative challenge for fans of the iconic Nintendo series. For 25 years The Legend of Zelda has chronicled the adventures of heroic Link™ and Princess Zelda™. Now fans can share their passion for the series and document its history with a new 25th anniversary website at http://www.zelda.com/25th. The anniversary website includes an interactive history of The Legend of Zelda, as well as a video featuring an orchestra performing music from the series at the 2011 E3 Expo.

Starting today through Sept. 9, Nintendo DSi™ or Nintendo DSi XL™ owners are also invited to create their own flipnotes, or short animations, inspired by The Legend of Zelda series. Nintendo DSi or Nintendo DSi XL owners can use one of three flipnote templates with music from The Legend of Zelda series, then complete and upload their creations via the Flipnote Studio application. Flipnote Studio is available as a free download from the Nintendo DSiWare™ service, and also comes pre-installed on select Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL hardware. Fans can also submit a paper entry by mail. The best Zelda-themed flipnotes will be evaluated by key Nintendo developers who have worked on the series – including Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, Eiji Aonuma and Yoshiaki Koizumi – and posted for fans to enjoy on the http://www.zelda.com/25th website, the Nintendo Channel on the Wii™ console and Flipnote Hatena on Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems. For official rules, visit http://www.zelda.com/25th/flipnote.

Nintendo has just opened a Japanese hub for all-things Zelda in honor of the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Thus far, you can view a history of each title released by the company, listen to music, watch a video of the orchestra performance from E3, download wallpapers, and more. More content will likely be added throughout the year.

Upon entry, you’ll also be treated to a nice, short opening animation.

You can access the new site here.

Did you know that Metroid turned 25 years-old today? That’s right – the first game in the series saw a release on this very day.

Team Ninja Yosuke Hayashi has offered a few thoughts about the franchise. Obviously his studio had an impact on Metroid, as they were one of the teams responsible for Other M.

Hayashi said in a tribute video:

“Happy anniversary to the Metroid series. I am personally a Metroid fan as well. I hope all us Metroid fans can get together and really support Metroid to make it even more successful in the future.”

This information comes from Sonic Generations producer Takashi Iizuka…

“Our team are always trying to present new gameplay innovations so it’s hard to please fans who like the gameplay from the older games. However, we have included the older gameplay as part of Sonic’s 20th Anniversary, so we think the fans of the older games will enjoy it [Generations] as well. We are also looking into continuing the Sonic 4 series which was released on WiiWare, and we’ll keep developing titles so more fans will enjoy the games.”

If you ask me, they should just look at what worked in Sonic Colors and try to build on it. Or look at the Genesis games. One thing I never want to see in a Sonic title again is a kiss with a human character…

Namco Bandai has opened a new teaser site that will see daily updates at 20:00. This time around, something tells me that it won’t be Digimon-related.

The text on the page says something like “I had started to run but was still unaware”. Make of that what you will!
