New data provided by Famitsu gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of April 2025.
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy was the notable new release of the month, selling just over 22,000 copies at retail. Overall sales were on the lower side. The best-selling game was Super Mario Party Jamboree, which moved just over 30,000 copies.

May 2: A remake of Chrono Trigger is apparently in the works. That information comes from Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, who allegedly shared the information at Comicon in Naples, Italy.
We do have confirmation that Horii was present for the event and was on hand delivering some sort of talk, based on various attendee reports. Regarding Chrono Trigger, he apparently let that information slip during an interview. After the host whispered something in his ear, Horii covered his mouth – indicating that he said something he wasn’t supposed to.

When Nintendo Switch 2 launches in just a few weeks, Mario Kart World will be there right alongside it. Nintendo has now spoken about the decision to tie the two together.
In a recent interview, Nintendo’s senior vice president of product development Nate Bihldorff spoke about how Mario Kart World is “one of the most broadly accessible games possible.” Also, anyone can easily get into the game, but it also has a high skill ceiling – meaning it’s very appealing to both hardcore and casual players.

From what previously was a Japan-only PS Vita exclusive, 7’scarlet has finally made its western Nintendo Switch debut with a new launch trailer. The visual novel comes from Aksys Games and Idea Factory in both digital and physical.
7’scarlet made its way to the Japanese eShop last year with the announcement that a western release was to follow suit. In this game you play as Ichiko Hanamaki, a college student investigating a strange town in an effort to discover the truth behind her brother’s disappearance.
